It Has Been a While Since I Painted Watercolor Portrait

Your paragraph text.gif

Hello! How are you? So while cleaning up my room, I saw my watercolor materials, which had been abandoned since I stopped receiving commissions. I felt that I could not do this right now. Today, I decided why not paint again, and maybe I will be back doing commissions again. This is my all-time dream to open a portrait commission, which I have never done. I only experienced doing pet portraits, which I enjoyed so much. I have learned a lot from that experience, and I kind of invested in more professional gear using what I earned from it. I saw the ASEAN Hive Challenge "Paint, Sketch, or Draw." Yeah, maybe this is my chance to paint traditionally again.

Materials I Used:

  • Watercolor Paints
  • Two bottle glass with water
  • Waterspray
  • Two pallette
  • Tape
  • Watercolor Paper 200 gsm
  • Watercolor Brush
  • Mechanical Pencil 2mm 2b
  • Eraser
  • Paper Towel
  • White Pen

The Process:

1.jpg

2.jpg

First I prepare the watercolor paper by taping the back of it and taping it to the DIY notebook easel I made LOL. After that, I drew an equal margin on each side to make the reference centered.

3.jpg

4.jpg

The first thing I did was lightly sketch the reference face shapes and measure them to make the proportions equal, when I am satisfied with the proportions I am going to erase the light sketch and I am going to start drawing the line art. I am using a mechanical pencil with a 2b lead.

$1

$1

After I drew the reference I am going to condition the watercolor paint by using water spray and I leave it for a minute to dilute the watercolor paint and I am ready to paint.

7.jpg

8.jpg

After conditioning the watercolor paint, the next thing I do is mix the paints into the palette. For this part, I only used a little paint and more water for the first layer as I proceeded to the process the more paint I used than water. The first part I am going to paint is the skin what I used is Imidazalone yellow which is a cold color with a mix of quinacridone red which is a cold color too. I first painted the part where the shadow is placed.

9.jpg

10.jpg

While the paint on the skin is still drying, I am going to paint another part which is the hair, sometimes watercolor painting is kind of complicated to explain but whenever I watch a video of someone painting a portrait is that why they add pink on the hair but her hair is black, as I paint more and more now I realize~ LOL. Artist's eyes see differently than non-artists which is true.

11.jpg

12.jpg

This time the paint on the skin dried already so I am going to add more layer of paint on the skin. I added detail on the eyes too. The day I painted this portrait the weather was hot so it instantly dried the paints. Next, I painted the hair darker one thing I learned from painting watercolor is to be patient that's it. hehehe

13.jpg

14.jpg

Now the portrait is getting better and better patient is the key for this medium, as you can see the skin is more vibrant now that I added more layers with more paint on it. I added more details of strands of hair to make it more lively and more volumized not flat.

15.jpg

16.jpg

Now that I am satisfied with the skin, I painted the eyebrows and eyes in detail.

17.jpg

18.jpg

After I added the details I am going to add highlights using this white gel pen, I added highlights to the hair eyes, and lips. To make the portrait not look flat I added a blue background around her back.

19.jpg

20.jpg

For the final, I added more little dots as her background just for an extra touch. Wahllaaa~~

Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
Please take care of your mental health as well.
I hope you are okay today :))

Nice! How I really wish I had this talent. I always imagine drawing something and my mind is in that world. Not thinking about anything or anyone; just escaping reality for a while.

Painting takes a lot of effort and energy to finish it. I remember when I was in college, our professor gave us an activity which was painting, and I painted the famous hourglass ⌛. Haha, it was a simple piece but I finished it for 3 days 😂. I'm not into it, but I appreciate artists who put so much love and passion to painting just like you 🥰. The detail is so perfect like you made it effortlessly only for hours 💪!!!

That is true, You need to be patient like a lot of patients 😀 That's cool! we did draw before too, even though it is not related to our course LOL. Yeah, it's our preference if we like it or not so it's fine :D Thank you :)))

I remembered it this blog when I was working in a tutorial way back 2018, we had a workshop for watercolor painting. There are so many individual who joined our workshop. The ages varies in different group. It only shows that a lot of people are into this watercolor painting. Having such a talent was really cool. Keep on posting your works. It was really great. ❤️😊
