Handmade Air Dry Clay Cat Stretching Phone Stand

0.JPG

Hello, how are you? During lunch time, I love to eat in my working place and watch something, and that habit of mine is an everyday must-do before eating or while eating, I need to listen to gossip or watch vlogs. Sometimes I like to use anything to angle my phone to my liking.

I am in my craft era this month, and I plan to do a phone stand to place my phone. And I have a lot of air-dry clay, so I will try to attempt to make one. I saw a reference from Pinterest, she made a cat stretching phone stand, and I need one!

For my reference cat I do my very first cat that is passed away years ago and he is pure black cat and green eye like wow, so the story behind it is when I was in college one of my classmate mention that her cat gave birth and one of them is a pure black kitten, and she knows that I love to have black cat so she gave me one.

Materials I Used:

0.JPG

  • Air-Dry Clay
  • Glass Sheet
  • Spray Water Bottle
  • Clay Tools
  • Air Dry Clay Paste
  • Rotary Detail Carver
  • Portable Weighing Scale
  • Paper Towel
  • Acrylic Paints
  • Paint Brush
  • Water Glass Bottle
  • Sponge

Craft Time!

Sculpting:

1.JPG

2.JPG

Conditioning air-dry clay with a wet finger and kneading it until smooth, conditioning it prevents cracking in the drying phase. After that, I shaped all the parts that I needed for this craft. I needed a head, 2 ears, 2 hands, and feet, and upper body and lower body, tail, and the balls LOL, I use the portable weighing scale just to be sure that the pair of parts are equally in size.

3.JPG

4.JPG

I use this wire texture tool to scrape the part where I assemble each other, and then I apply an air-dry clay paste (which contains water and air-dry clay)to the part that I scrape.

5.JPG

6.JPG

And then I flatten and smooth the gap using this silicone tool.

7.JPG

8.JPG

I added a dent shape to the ear to make it look more 3d. and Then I started adding the upper part body and just did the same thing: scrape, paste, and smooth the gap.

9.JPG

10.JPG

For the hands, I fill in the gap with air-dry clay paste to prevent it from falling and to achieve the same effect as earlier.

11.JPG

12.JPG

This part needed a patient to just do the same thing, scrape the upper body, and then do the same thing to the lower part.

13.JPG

14.JPG

Scrape and add paste to the lower part, and then connect them by adding paste in between the gap and smoothen. Sometimes the upper body feels like falling, but just be patient filling the gap.

15.JPG

16.JPG

Now the upper and lower body is connected.

17.JPG

18.JPG

I shape the feet part first and then add it to the top part of the lower body and and fill the gap with paste and smooth it out.

19.JPG

20.JPG

Last is the tail and then the balls. What I do is I curve out the air-dry clay like an opposite C.

21.JPG

22.JPG

When everything is all intact, I am going to use a paintbrush to smooth out any bumps or imperfections in the clay and let it dry for 2 days because this cat is pretty thick.

23.JPG

24.JPG

This is what it looks like when it is completely dry.

25.JPG

26.JPG

Some imperfections still appear when it dried, so I am going to sand it using this rotary detail carver, you can also use sandpaper.

Time To Paint!

27.JPG

28.JPG

These are the materials I am going to use. First is I am going to use black acrylic paint for the fur.

29.JPG

30.JPG

Just paint it all over except for the ears and balls LOL. Oh, by the way, I added shades like brown and blues to the fur to make it dimensional in color.

31.JPG

32.JPG

Then I painted the ears and balls with pink as a base.

33.JPG

34.JPG

To add the eyes, I start with a white base first, and then I layer it with green.

38.JPG

39.JPG

And I added black to the eyes, I like it dilated, and then painted the nose pink too, and to make the mouth pretty visible, I used light gray to draw it.

Photo Time!

This is what it looks like from the front to back.

43.JPG

I borrowed my dad's phone just to try and take photos too :D

I really like it so much! I have another craft that is useful that I can literally use.

Thank you for visiting, see you on my next blog. :D
Please take care of your mental health as well.
I hope you are okay today :))

This is such a great idea! 😃 The craftmanship of your cat-shaped phone stand is truly exquisite. It's a complex process that demands real patience. 😄

A few years ago, I remember buying a phone stand for my son, who was in his teenage years, hanging on his phone all day, and especially on the toilet... 😃 So, I bought him a handmade phone stand made of wood, of a guy sitting on a toilet... 🤣

But, your work is a lot better than the one that I bought... It looks great! And a pink touch from behind is a spot on... heheheh... It gives a humorous note to it! 😃

Thanks for sharing!

Same here, eating while watching something is more enjoyable talaga no parang mas nakakagana lang kumain haha

You are so cool making your own stand. If I know to do this I'll make one as well but with SKZOO design and with the same position as the one you made. The idea of that is just so cool ang cute kasiiiiiii. And pansin ko lang san mo pinapatong yong holder. Sane na same sakin though mas matangkad lang yon haha
