Cooking Paksiw na Tilapia (Fish Simmered with Vinegar and Spices) For My Family
As the cook in the house, I find it challenging to decide what recipe to use and what ingredients my mother bought. Sometimes, I just base my decisions on the situation or whether I already cooked this recipe a few days ago.
My whole family has colds and coughs right now. I am the only one not infected, so I feel like I am going next, LOL. Maybe I will cook a recipe that will help them, or maybe not. Based on what I believe, Vinegar can help thin mucus that causes colds, and I guess that is how it is. It is true, though, and adding spicy chili powder makes it extra effective.
What I am going to cook today is called Paksiw na Tilapia mainly cooked with vinegar, garlic, onion, ginger, and green chili we don't have stock in the fridge for a moment it is better to add one or two.
Ingredients I Used:
Ingredients I Used:
- 6 Tilapia
- 1 tbsp.Cooking Oil
- 1 tsp. Ground Pepper
- 7 Galic Clove
- 1 medium Red Onion
- 1 medium Ginger
- 2 tbsp. Fish Sauce
- 2 cups of Water
- half cup White Vinegar
- 1 tsp. Magic Sarap Seasoning
- 1 tsp. Rock Salt
- half tsp. Chili Powder

When the oil was hot enough, I added aromatics like garlic, red onion, and ginger. And I sautee them for a minute or until the fragrance of aromatics comes out.
After sauteing the aromatics, I added 1 tablespoon of fish sauce for extra flavor. Let the fish sauce cook for a second.
After I added the fish sauce, I then added 2 cups of water to the pan. And I let it boil before adding something in.
After I added the white vinegar, I added the tilapia into the pan.
I added the ground pepper in.
To add extra flavor to the dish I added 1 teaspoon magic sarap seasoning. Add a lot of flavor.
Mix all the condiments and pour some on the fish to absorb the flavor more.
Before I close the lip, I sprinkle a teaspoon of rock salt above the fish which makes the fish more flavorful.
Then close the lid and let the fish cook for 5 minutes with low fire.
After cooking the fish for 5 minutes, I flip all the fish to the other side and cook it again for 5 minutes.
Now the dish is ready to be served! :D
Happy Eating!

ginigisa pala yan. sa manila kasi babad lang sya then kukuluin lang pag lulutuin na 🤣
Puwede din hindi siya igisa, ginagawa ko lang yan para mas lumalabas yung aroma ng mga bawang 🤣
ohh so for takam effect lang 🤣🤣🤣
That looks delicious! I love cooking tilapia fish because taking out the spines are not too bothersome unlike bangus. Paksiw dish will really bring out the flavor from the fish. For my little kids though they prefer to have it fried. They eat it with so much gusto even using hands for a better meal experience. Hahah
That is true! Tilapia is easier to eat than bangus. 🤣 That is me when I was a kid I want all fish to be fried, I don’t like paksiw at all hehehe but now I always paksiw tilapia 😄 oh yeah using hand when eat makes the food more delicious “mapaparami ka ng kain” 😆
@leannwithdoublen this is one of my favorite when I was in my hometown. We are very near at a fishpond and we get it so fresh that we can eat it raw😍. My mother likes paksiw so much😍
That’s good to know, i like paksiw too. Really you can eat it raw? Yeah, my parents like it too speacially my father 😄
Paksiw is the easiest way and fastest way I think to cook tilapia ☺☺ I like it's broth too. For raw Tilapia it can be eaten if it is freshly picked from the ponds. It's still moving when you cut the head🤣 it's so soft and watery and sweet together with venigar and onions
