Cooking Blog: Ginisang Papaya with Saluyot! Veggie Food
Hello, how are you? It is so scary what is happening to the Philippines right now. Imagine almost every day since the Cebu earthquake happened new place is experiencing an earthquake. A literal earthquake just happened yesterday here, but not as strong as in other places.
By the way, I thought papaya could only be eaten when it is ripe, and there is a debate among people about whether the one used for Tinolang Manok. Some people say it is sayote, and I agree that sayote is the best for me, in my opinion. So if you like papaya or sayote, it is up to you, it is your choice LOL.
So, this time when I joke around with my parents that I used to not eat vegetables when I was a little, but now I am now adult, I love eating those now, and I said to her my taste for the food is different now from before, and she agrees to it.
Since we moved to my mother's side of the family, that's the time I tasted food I had never tasted before, and that's when I realized that home-cooked is waaay more better than processed food.
What I am going to cook today is Ginisang Papaya and Saluyot, or Jute, which they call in English. Whenever I eat this food, it always heals my digestive system. I think it is because of the saluyot, so I love eating it.
Ingredients I Used:
Ingredients I Used:
- Unripe Papaya
- 2 GarlicCloves
- 1 Red Onion
- 1 small Ginger
- 2 tbsp Fish Sauce
- 2 1/2 cup Water
- Ground Pepper
- 1/2 tsp All-in-one seasoning
Prepping the Ingredients:
First, cut the papaya into four pieces.
After that, I peel off the skin because peeling off the skin when it is still in shape is hard, so cutting it first is a must.
After that, I cleaned out the middle part by removing the seeds, and then for the just I just separated the stem and then the leaves, and that's it.
Let's Cook!
Let's Cook!
In a hot pan, I added 1 tablespoon of cooking oil.
For the aroma, I added garlic, red onion, and ginger. Let the cook until the aroma of them comes out.
After that, I added two tablespoons of fish sauce. Fish sauce is the number one condiment that is always in our kitchen. Fish sauce makes everything taste good.
After that, I added 2 1/2 cups of water and let that boil.
Then I added a dash of ground black pepper.
When the water starts boiling, I am going to add the sliced papaya and mix it.
And next is the saluyot (Jute), make sure to add the papaya first before the jute.
And then I added about half a teaspoon of the all-in-one seasoning for extra flavor.
And then I mix everything up. Cook it on medium heat for about 7-10 minutes or until the papaya is soft enough to eat.
Plated and served hot.
Happy Eating!

What a healthy food. Thank you for sharing the papaya cooking way i know is sauteed papaya.
Natural vegetables are good, like mine, but the creativity of the method may be different, and perhaps the taste is definitely different too.
Home cooked meals are really the best, especially with fresh veggies like papaya and saluyot. They’re healthy and full of comfort!
The food is so healthy and looks tasty. I found a new recipe for green papaya, thanks for sharing :))
This recipe looks incredibly delicious, healthy and comforting! 💖 It's so nice you've developed a love for home-cooked vegetables as an adult 🙌 Take care, especially with the recent earthquakes! 🙏

That’s such a sweet reflection! It’s funny how our tastes change as we grow older — the foods we once avoided become the ones we truly appreciate. Moving to your mother’s side sounds like it opened up a whole new world of flavors and memories for you.
