Dunkel and Amber

Hello #Beersaturday lovers. I have two beers to review this week. I hope ou enjoy!

Shevchenko 9

Brewery: Four Fathers Brewing Co
Origin: Cambridge ON Canada
Style: Ukrainian Style Dunkel, Dark Lager
Abv: 5.0
IBU: Unknown
SRM: Unknown

1000009207.jpg

Marketing: The can had a Ukrainian blue and yellow with red accents color scheme. Large brand logo at the center and muted monochrome blue design imagery in the background.

The beer is named after the Ukrainian football player who goes by the same name. It was an okay can design overall.

1000009209.jpg

Color: The beer poured a deep chestnut brown with a tan colored head. The liquid was clear as most lagers are and had a brownish red hue around the edges of the glass when tilted to the light. The foam was strong enough to last a while, which is always nice.

1000009211.jpg

Nose: Sweet malty aroma with notes of grass and cereals. Maybe some bread dough in the background.

1000009210.jpg

Taste: Malty and sweet upfront. A little tangy. Very mild bitterness. Decently balanced, airing slightly on the sweet side, but not overly. Very pleasant for me. Fresh tasting as well.

Texture: Really nice carbonation and a light bodied mouthfeel.

1000009213.jpg

Impression: This was a very good beer. I enjoyed it a lot. It had great aroma and taste and was fresh and clean. I don't know anything about Ukrainian Dunkles and if this one fits the category but it was a great beer that I would buy again. I don't usually buy two of the same beers in a given beer run but I'm glad that I did this time around. Now I have another one waiting in my fridge for later. Huzzah!

Ice Aged Amber Ale

1000009217.jpg

Brewery: Old Credit Brewing Co
Origin: Mississauga ON Canada
Style: Amber Ale
Abv: 5.0%
IBU: Unknown
SRM: Unknown

1000009214.jpg

Marketing: The color of the can was a rich navy blueish to dark purple color with the same color lettering and white accents. Sail boat imagery, perhaps of the Canadian Bluenose ship that is found on the Canadian dime as well. I don't know if that's actually the case but it looks similar and very plausible to me. The can has a classic look about it and an almost old fashioned quality about it. I quite like this design. It looks elegant and "old man chic" to me.

1000009216.jpg

Color: The beer poured a clear coppery amber color with a flimsy beige colored head.

1000009219.jpg

Nose: the beer didn't have a strong aroma to it but I found it to be on the malty side with notes of bread and dark fruit, maybe plum.

1000009218.jpg

Taste: Mildly sweet and tangy with a subtly bitterness to balance it all out. Fruity with notes of plum and grape must and some toffee flavors as well.

Texture: Nice carbonation on this beer with tiny sharp bubbles and a light bodied mouthfeel.

1000009215.jpg

Impression: This was a good beer for me as well. It wasn't too sweet. It was decently balanced; and it was fresh tasting. It wasn't overly flavorful but enough to be interesting and enjoyable. I'd do this one again for sure.

Well thats it for now. Until next time, thanks for stopping by.

Cheers everyone.

I guess I've never sampled any Ukrainian style. Sound's quite interesting!

I hadn't either but it was quite good! Mind you, this is Canada's version of a Ukrainian Style beer, so who really knows how authentic it is? 😆
It was tasty though 😋

Well, yes :) Any clue on which hop varieties did they use?

That I'm not sure. It doesn't list them on the can. They rarely list the hops used on the can in Canada. So do, but not many

Hey I have been to both of those breweries!

I was never overly impressed with 4 Fathers beers I found on the shelf. Then, I visited the brewery!

Their brewing facility onsite at the relatively large taproom and restaurant was really neat. The variety of beers offered fresh on tap was impressive too.

Great malty and delicious looking beers there!

It's always better in person right at the source. Always much fresher as well. I haven't tried any of their other beers. This is the first I've come across. I thought it was decent. Not amazing but I enjoyed it.
