Argentina - Trekking to Wank Hill in La Cumbrecita: amazing views at 1715 meters above sea level. / Trekking al Cerro Wank en La Cumbrecita: vistas asombrosas a 1715 metros sobre el nivel del mar. 😃❤️

After several hours of walking along the flat pedestrian streets of the beautiful town of La Cumbrecita in Córdoba, it was finally time for a bit of an ascent. From the start of the day, I knew we had to climb some mountain, even a small one, to get a view from a higher vantage point. But luckily, the plan improved, and we ended up climbing the highest mountain in the area: Cerro Wank, at 1715 meters above sea level. I had only asked for a short trek, but I got one that offered fantastic panoramic views of the entire valley ❤️.

Después de varias horas de caminar en plano por las calles peatonales del hermoso pueblo de La Cumbrecita en Córdoba, finalmente había llegado el momento de ascender un poco. Cuando empezó este día, yo sabía que a alguna montaña teníamos que subir, aunque fuese una pequeña, como para tener una vista con algo de altura. Pero por suerte, el plan mejoró y terminamos subiendo a la montaña más alta de estos alrededores: el Cerro Wank, a 1715 msnm. Solo había pedido un poco de trekking, pero tuve el que me dio unas grandes vistas panorámicas de todo el valle ❤️.

I had heard of Cerro Wank in La Cumbrecita before, but in my mind it was a difficult peak, so when we passed by the tourist office I didn't even ask about it. While my dad loves hiking and all, I didn't want to subject him to a particularly challenging trek. But to our surprise, almost without meaning to, our walk led us to the trailhead for this mountain. When the signs indicated it was only a two-hour climb, neither of us hesitated to make the trek to the top.

Alguna vez había escuchado nombrar al Cerro Wank de La Cumbrecita, pero en mi imaginación era una cumbre difícil, por lo que cuando pasamos por la oficina de turismo ni siquiera pregunté por ella. Si bien a mi papá le encanta caminar y todo, tampoco quería exponerlo a un trekking de gran dificultad. Pero para nuestra sorpresa, casi sin quererlo, nuestro paseo nos llevó hasta la entrada del sendero de este cerro. Cuando la cartelería indicó que solo eran dos horas de subida, ninguno de los dos dudó en hacer el recorrido hasta la cima.

A short distance from the tourist center of La Cumbrecita, with its pedestrian streets and German architecture, lies a neighborhood still under construction. On this side, there are already streets where cars circulate, and that's how the first part of the trail began. But a few minutes later, we found the colorful stakes that marked the signs and were able to enter the path of stones and shrubs. Choosing this walk was a great decision, as there was hardly anyone else on it, and escaping the hustle and bustle of all the people below was very welcome.

Alejándose un poco de lo que es el centro turístico de La Cumbrecita, con sus calles peatonales y arquitectura alemana, se puede encontrar un barrio en plena construcción. Para este lado, ya hay calles en donde circulan autos y así fue la primera parte del sendero. Pero unos minutos después, ya encontramos las estacas de colores que indicaban los carteles y pudimos meternos en el sendero de piedras y arbustos. Elegir hacer este paseo fue una gran opción, ya que no había casi nadie en él, y descansar del bullicio de toda la gente que había abajo nos vino muy bien.

I must say, this trail was quite forgiving in terms of technical difficulty, but it did throw us off course a bit when we lost sight of one of the stakes. We started climbing wherever we could, because that's the intuitive thing to do when you're going to the top, but when the bushes got thicker, we realized that wasn't the way. Neither my dad nor I wanted to backtrack, so we continued along the path a bit haphazardly, until in the distance we saw what looked like the monolith at the summit. And indeed it was.

Debo decir que este sendero fue bastante amigable con nosotros en cuando a dificultad técnica, pero un poco nos hizo desviarnos cuando perdimos de vista una de las estacas. Empezamos a subir por cualquier lado, porque eso es lo intuitivo si vas a la cima, pero cuando los arbustos se hicieron más densos entendimos que por ahí no era. Ni mi papá ni yo queríamos retroceder así que continuamos el camino un poco a lo salvaje, hasta que a lo lejos vimos lo que parecía ser el monolito en la cumbre. Y efectivamente lo era.

As usual, the two-hour climb indicated on the sign at the entrance was a bit exaggerated. We both completed the hike in under an hour and a half, and if we hadn't gotten a little lost, we probably would have taken much less time. In any case, reaching the summit is always satisfying, and the views from there were too. If you're in town, La Cumbrecita doesn't seem so big, but from this hilltop, you can clearly see how much the town is growing.

Como casi siempre, las dos horas de subida que marcaba el cartel de la entrada estaban un poco exageradas. Ambos hicimos este recorrido en menos de una hora y media, y si no nos perdíamos un poco, seguramente hubiésemos tardado mucho menos. Como sea, llegar a la cumbre siempre es satisfactorio, y las vistas que teníamos desde ahí, también. Si estas dentro del pueblo, La Cumbrecita no parece tan grande, pero desde este cerro se puede ver claramente todo lo que el pueblo está creciendo.

For a summit, the timing was perfect, with no wind and just the right amount of sun. We stayed there for a while, having a small "healthy" snack: some apples. Before climbing this mountain, my dad and I had eaten a large German sausage with potatoes, which felt like a lump in my stomach. But luckily, the trek took care of digesting it quickly and gave me energy for the adventure ahead. It wasn't the best meal for staying fit, but it did the trick that time.

Para ser una cumbre, el momento que nos tocó fue perfecto, sin viento y con el sol justo. Nos quedamos ahí un buen rato, tomando un pequeño snack "saludable": unas manzanas. Antes de subir a esta montaña, mi papá y yo habíamos comido una gran salchicha alemana con papas, que a mí me cayó como una bola en el estómago. Pero por suerte, el trekking se encargó de digerirla rápido y darme energía para la aventura que me estaba proponiendo. No fue la mejor comida para ser fit, pero cumplió su función esa vez.

During our vacations together, my dad and I conquered a few small peaks in the places we visited. He was very excited to have reached another one in the province of Córdoba, and it was clear he was hoping we'd do something like that again, since he wore special hiking boots on that trip. I was also a little more relieved that he had proper footwear for this activity, since on our previous outings he was practically wearing flip-flops 😂.

En nuestras vacaciones juntos, mi papá y yo hemos conquistado algunas pequeñas cumbres de los lugares a los que fuimos. Él estaba muy contento por haber conocido otra más en la provincia de Córdoba, y también se nota que esperaba que volviéramos a hacer algo así, ya que a ese viaje fue con unas zapatillas especiales para trekking. Yo también me quedé un poco más tranquila de que él tuviera calzado adecuado para esta actividad, ya que en nuestros paseos anteriores un poco más e iba en ojotas 😂.

Climbing Cerro Wank was the perfect plan to get a great view of La Cumbrecita from above. After that, we could say we'd seen the town from both above and below, and that both perspectives were beautiful. Visiting La Cumbrecita again allowed me to get to know this place better and refresh my memories, which were almost fading. I was glad I went during a trekking phase of my life, which allowed me to go up and down this mountain without any problems (except for the heavy German sausage at lunch) 😅.

Subir al Cerro Wank fue un plan perfecto para tener una gran postal de La Cumbrecita desde arriba. Después de eso, pudimos decir que vimos el pueblo desde arriba y desde abajo, y que ambos puntos de vista son hermosos. Visitar La Cumbrecita una vez más me permitió conocer más a fondo este lugar, y renovar mis recuerdos que ya casi estaban borrosos. Me alegré por haber ido en una etapa trekkinista de mi vida, que me permitió subir y bajar esta montaña sin ningún tipo de inconveniente (salvo la pesada salchicha alemana del almuerzo) 😅.
