The beauty of being an independent woman. LOH#252

According to my mother, there were few notable women in society when she was growing up, and it was a fact that women were raised just to become housewives and mothers. This was certain in the way female kids were taught chores, while male kids had more freedom. Women were taught submission and dependency, but the narrative changed when they gained access to proper education and information about women thriving in different parts of the world.

This discovery inspired many women to do more than just being wives or mothers; they started aiming for independence. I learned the value of independence from my mother, and it's a valuable lesson every female child should have.

She always said I could do many things for myself, but I didn't fully understand until we had a neighbor who couldn't spend a dime without her husband's involvement. Sometimes, when her husband was away for work, she would borrow or buy goods on credit until he returned. It was the opposite in my home; my mother would spend any amount she wanted with or without my dad's assistance. I saw how happy she felt when she could contribute to the family, and that's what I've always wanted for myself – to be able to support and contribute wherever I find myself.

My dad is currently ill, and my mom has been contributing significantly to the family. I couldn't imagine what the family would be like if she had been dependent on Dad all these years. Being independent has become a driving force for me as I strive to become successful in life, and I'm building myself bit by bit. Already, I do many things for myself and don't depend on my parents for anything. I run a small business, and having just completed my NYSC, I look forward to getting a good job that can help me expand my business and take it to the next level.

I want to earn more money to do the things I love, take care of myself, and also support people. I don't want to be just another woman in the community; I want to be a backbone to my family and society. I want to be an inspiration to young female children, teaching them that being independent as a woman is possible. Some men may misunderstand the purpose of an independent woman, but I think every man with an independent wife should be grateful. If I were a man, I would consider such a woman a blessing in my life.

My uncle always spoke about how his wife pays the children's school fees on resumption day, and he would refund her a few weeks later. There's usually no lapse in their financial life because the woman steps in when the man can't, and that's the beauty of being an independent woman.

My passion is paying off in it little way and I am taking profit but my key inspiration has always been becoming an independent woman. Although I'm doing well for myself, there's always room for improvement, and I still have the privilege to grow, which is what I'm working on.

Being independent is an incredible drive to have, especially as a woman. Being able to afford things without waiting for someone to give them to you is one of the best feeling ever.
