Friends forever.

It was Emmy's birthday party and aside from sharing the same birth month, we grew up together in the same neighbourhood. Her mom was my mom's boss and our friendship started when my mom took me to her place of work.

I always sat around the place lonely until Emmy came with her mom on a particular day and we became best of friends after. As life would have it, my parents got a better job and were able to enrol me in a reputable school that Emmy attended. We went to the same high school, university and currently serving in the same state where we school, everyone called us twins because we are inseparable.

We planned for a small party in our apartment and after we were done with the decorations and baking, our friends started showing up. Music was on and everyone was having fun so I and Emmy decided to quickly freshen up.

I grabbed a cold cup of coffee on my way to the room and emptied it before returning to the party, it was refreshing and wish I got two cups.

The games started and everything was going on fine until we started running out of stuff, it wasn't an issue initially but it became something to be concerned about because more guests were coming in.

"Bee, you need to get some pizza, drinks and anything they can eat."

Emmy gave me her credit card and I called an Uber immediately. The trip took longer than I expected and Emmy didn't give me breathing space. She kept calling me and I had to stop picking up.

I arrived back and was stunned, it looked like the guest had doubled. The good thing was that some of them brought pizza, cake, wine and juice.

Late in the evening, Emmy went around thanking the guest and for another thirty minutes, she was nowhere to be found. Her phone was with me so checking around was all I could do.

"Did you see Emmy?" I asked around and everyone said they saw her go outside.

I got outside but she was still nowhere to be found. Some guests were sitting close to a car outside outside the compound so I approached them to see if she was there and yes she was.

Emmy was sitting in the car and not looking good.

"What happened to her?" I asked and Emmy replied before anyone did.

"I am good, you remember that coffee thing I told you about? My coursemate brought some for me."

Emmy raised her head and there were some particles on her nose.

"I thought I told you not to try that thing again," I screamed at her and went back into the house.

All the guests had left at night and I was left with Emmy. We were too tired to do anything and just went straight to bed but we didn't speak to each other.

I had barely slept when I noticed Emmy tipping her toe out of the room. I allowed her to leave before I got out of bed too. She sat on a stool outside and was sniffing something. I walked up to her and she was surprised to see me. I was short of words and wanted to leave but she called me back.

"You are only pissed because you haven't tried this, you will love it." Emmy stuttered.

I was about to kick the container from her hand when she fell to the ground. It was late and getting a vehicle to take her to the hospital might be difficult so I rushed to get water and sprinkled it on her face while calling her name.

She eventually opened her eyes and sneezed hard after 2 minutes.

"What happened to me?" She asked.

"You passed out, you scared me, Emmy," I screamed at her and left her there. I was crying already because I couldn't think about losing her.

She slowly followed me and came to apologize.

"Don't apologize Emmy, We were taught to eat through the mouth and breathe through the nose but you are doing otherwise, what has come over you?" I tried to stop the tears but couldn't.

I was very angry and threatened to even move out of the apartment, she realized I was pissed and promised to change.

The next morning, I woke Emmy up with a steaming cup of coffee and she couldn't say no. We talked for a few minutes before cleaning the house and drank coffee again afterwards.

People who fall into the vice of drugs not only harm themselves, but also those who love them, it is a drama that I have witnessed and it is not easy to face, because if the person becomes a strong dependent drug is terrible because it transforms and comes to do unthinkable things to get their drug.

They harm more than just themselves because it will turnout to be a huge loss for their friend and family.

Thank goodness you were there to save your friend, and even better that you did not take her up on her offer! Seems this could have gone very sideways otherwise!
