A cockroachless world.

I was having a conversation with a stranger I met at a seminar some time ago and mentioned that I don't like some animals while the lecture about animals was going on because of their creepy nature and she went on to explain the importance of the animals I tagged creepy in the ecosystem. I was surprised to know that even vultures have their purpose on earth, she said that there would have been lots of carcasses laying everywhere without them and that would have caused lots of bad odour which is true.

We didn't get to discuss insects and I haven't had the time to go check about them online. Back in secondary school, we were taught the importance of bees, butterflies, and other insects. Their services to nature include pollination and many others. All of these are quite understandable and one insect I still can't comprehend the importance of its existence is cockroach. It is a problem when it crawls and the flying ones are a great calamity to many humans.

There was a time when my aunt's kids were talking about Noah and how he moved all the animals into the ark because of the flood. I asked them if Noah went into the Ark with cockroaches and they couldn't stop laughing. I remembered one of them saying Noah didn't do well with allowing cockroaches to get into the Ark because they are creepy.

For the few times that I have felt my soul leaving my body were because of cockroaches and if not for the intervention of people, my soul would have departed me a long time ago.

Those creatures have humiliated me more times than I can count. One of them happened when I visited Lagos state some time ago.

The apartment wasn't self-contained so I woke before midnight to use the bathroom because the weather was hot. I took a bucket of water to the bathroom and after hanging my towel, I placed the light somewhere that I could see the whole bathroom clearly. To be honest, I wasn't thinking about cockroaches and just went on to bathe.

While applying soap to my face, I heard a vibration sound like something flapping wings and I quickly rinsed my face. Lo and behold, it was a flying cockroach.
I tried reaching for the light and it was then I realized that there were more of them. Removing my towel might cause them to move so I gently opened the bathroom door and ran into the room.

Please don't ask me if I ran naked or not but I was happy I didn't come across anyone while running for my dear life. I am happy the bathroom was inside the building and it could have been a different case if it was outside.

My friends had to follow me back and I couldn't even close the bathroom door so she stood guard at the entrance.

The next morning, no one told me to pack my things before I went back home. It's not like there aren't cockroaches at my place but they are very few and I don't run out of insecticide.

I can't count how many times I have turned my room up, side and down just because one cockroach stressed my life. My siblings aren't scared so they help and I don't know why an ordinary cockroach will scare a big girl like me.

If I can eradicate one animal, it will be cockroaches. They should just go and let people like me breathe, a cockroachless world will be a happier place for me.
