Walking with My Shadow

This is a true story. It was 2:55 in the afternoon, and the late sun was walking with me like an old friend. And of course, it was hot—really, really hot. At that moment, there was no noise, only the sound of my own footsteps echoing on the burning concrete beneath me.

In front of me, my shadow stretched out as if it wanted to arrive before I did. It made me think about the Shadow Hunters contest, and I told myself, “Why not make a short video and call it Walking with My Shadow?” So I did. But since I was walking downhill, I decided to take several photos of my steps and the shadow as well.

While walking and taking the photo, I tried to focus carefully and make the shot look natural. But of course, that’s nearly impossible when you’re the one taking the pictures—so my arms show up that way in the photos.

But it wasn’t just about the photo. It was also about the walk itself, and how that moment alone with my shadow ahead of me, the sun on my back, made me reflect on everything I’ve left behind. What I left behind was my car, which was being repaired after a crash. So I had no choice but to walk under that relentless sun.

Sometimes I feel like my shadow knows as much about me as I do. It doesn’t speak, but it’s always there. It reminds me that no matter how far I walk, as long as there’s light, my shadow never leaves me. And that’s okay. Because with every step, with every ray of light that touches me, she’s there too—my shadow, my silent reflection.

That day, I didn’t walk alone.

Caminando con mi sombra

Esto es una historia real, eran las 2 y 55 de la tarde, el sol de la tarde me acompañaba como un viejo amigo y por supuesto que hacía mucho, pero mucho calor, en ese momento no había ruido, solo yo podía escuchar mis propios pasos en el concreto ardiendo bajo mis pasos.

Frente a mí, mi sombra se alargaba como si quisiera llegar antes que yo, me hizo pensar en el concurso de cazadores de sombra y me dije a mí mismo y porque no haces un pequeño video y que lleve el título caminando con mi sombra y así lo hice, pero como iba en bajada decidí también tomar varias fotos de mis pasos y la sombra.

Pero mientras iba caminando y tomando la foto me cuidaba de enfocar bien y que la foto parezca natural, pero claro que eso es algo imposible porque yo tenía que tomar las fotos, por ende los brazos se me ven de esa forma en las fotos.

Pero no todo era foto también era pensar en ese caminar y de como un momento a solas con mi sombra delante de mí con el sol acuestas me hizo pensar en todo lo que he dejado atrás, y lo que deje fue mi auto que lo estarían reparando por un choque, entonces me toco caminar debajo de ese gran sol sin clemencia.

A veces siento que mi sombra sabe tanto de mí como yo mismo, esa sombra no habla, pero siempre está, me recuerda que no importa cuán lejos camine, mientras haya luz mi sombra nunca se despega, y está bien, Porque en cada paso, en cada rayo de luz que me toca, también está ella, mi sombra, mi reflejo silencioso.

Ese día no caminé solo.
