LOH Community Contest #259 [EN/ES]

Getting to know the culture of other countries is always an enriching experience, and it usually opens our eyes to realities we often never imagined.

Although I’ve traveled less than I would like, whenever I have, I’ve always considered it important to include basic activities such as trying traditional local food, visiting the historic center and a museum in the city I’m in, and exploring natural attractions.

If I had to organize a 3-day tour in my country for someone from Hive, I would try to learn about their interests so that the tour would be as enjoyable as possible.

In @kerrislravenhills's case, knowing that she is a collector of precious metals, I would take her to visit the city of Luque, which is the cradle of the art of Filigree¹, where she would find true silver masterpieces, all handcrafted.

I would also take her to visit the Central Bank of Paraguay, located in the capital city, Asunción, which has a numismatic museum² I think she would enjoy, and where she could acquire some of the commemorative coins minted in Paraguay.

Since enjoying a good meal is something everyone appreciates, I would take her to a restaurant that serves Paraguayan cuisine, to try one of my favorite dishes: Chipa Guazú³, and Vori Vori⁴, which is a soup made with chicken, vegetables, and cornmeal dumplings.

Finally, I would propose a trip to the eastern part of the country to visit one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world: the Itaipú⁵ Dam.

Then, although it’s not in Paraguay, I believe that due to its proximity, visiting the Iguazú Falls⁶ would be a must. The name “Iguazú” comes from a literal translation of the Guaraní language meaning “Big Water.”

I believe these activities would keep us busy for the three days, and we might even want to spend an extra day in the tri-border area to visit the Falls from both countries, as each side offers a different perspective.

If there’s time left, visiting downtown Ciudad del Este⁷ would be an interesting option for purchasing electronics, since that area has Duty Free shops for foreigners, and you can literally find everything at unbeatable prices.

I do enjoy history which often intertwines with economic history. Traditional cooking is a must try since I do not know of any Paraguayan restaurants where I live let alone being authentic. Natural wonders yes, I’m not totally into collecting and a change in scenery can be just as refreshing. As for shopping, I won’t leave until I get an authentic Tradition Paraguayan dress predominantly in black with gold and silver accents. Not the traditional cheery colors so it may have to be custom made. IF time permits, learn the traditional folk dance.
Thanks @ladyaryastark

I am sure you would love the ñanduti and a'o po'i, that are our best handcraft... Dance will be easiest that you imagine, but I couldn't help in that (I guess I born with two left 🦶)

Well, this sounds like an unforgettable 3-day journey. I did not know much about Paraguay before, but your post really opened my eyes. Very well written post!

Yeah, Paraguay is almost unknown, maybe because we don't have sea 😆

Thanks a lot for your kindly words 😊
