Gossip, good or bad? QC Community Contest #102

Gossip is like a little imp that perches on our shoulders and whispers in our ears about matters that do not concern us and urges us to spread it to whomever will lend us an ear.

While gossip could be considered inherent to human nature, and part of communication since the beginning of time, it is one of the bad habits that every person who wants to shape his character and values should banish forever.

Gossip in general originates with a malevolent purpose, even more so when what is gossiped about is false, and even if the content of the gossip is true, it usually brings undesired consequences to the people who are victims of it.

Although nowadays gossip circulates with total naturalness in all kinds of environments and especially in social networks, in the past it was considered a serious breach of the rules of civility and good manners, so participating in them, subtracts human quality and even credibility.

Therefore, and although we often do it innocently, without the aim of harming anyone, we should keep in mind that if the gossip was about us, we would not like it to be spreading and become vox populi, it is not right and often, if not almost always, it damages or hurts someone, reason enough to avoid this bad habit.

Communication should always be used to build and create, and the bad habit of gossip does the opposite, it uses words as weapons and almost always someone ends up affected by it. So, it would be good to make viral the challenge of talking without gossiping, and demonstrate that it is possible to talk and communicate without resorting to gossip.
