The shape of me

In case the title of this article feels familiar, it is inspired by Ed Sheeran’s song titled “Shape of You”. Looking at this topic from the Hive Ghana weekly engagement-wk 33, I kept wondering how I can describe my current self with a shape; can shapes even help to describe the qualities of humans? However, after doing some research online, I have come to better understand the question and found out about how shapes symbolize different human qualities.

• Circle symbolizes harmony, completeness, unity

• Triangle symbolizes balance, energy, progress

• Square symbolizes order, stability, structure

• Star symbolizes excellence, uniqueness

…and a host of other shapes

I had to quickly review my life and where I'm at right now and figured that the best shape to describe it is the triangle - balance, energy, progress. I can't really say much about the balance aspect of it as I don't really see my life as being balanced right now but I'm trying to do so and getting there slowly. But in a way, I will say my life is a lot more balanced right now as compared to last year, thanks to the goals for this year I came up with before the end of 2023.

I graduated from the university last year and things have been crazy since then but I had to sit up this year and fully focus on my goals. The goals I came up with aim to strike a balance in the major aspects of my life; career, finance, health, and relationship with others. I have been able to strike a bit of balance between some of these aspects but like I said earlier, it's not really balanced in a way because some aspects are getting more attention than others. But still, it's a work in progress.

Speaking of progress, it is also one of the qualities that is symbolized by the triangle. I am a lot happy with the progress I'm making towards achieving my goals. Let's look at Hive for example, as of last year, I barely publish articles up to 3 times a week but now, I have already gotten the Hive weekly author badge for the 2 previous weeks of this month and I will get a third one this week. From publishing 3 times a week to now publishing every day, that's indeed great progress that I'm proud of.

Also, I'm terms of career path, I'm currently learning web development and my goal is to get a job before the end of this year. Earlier this year, some programming concepts were very hard for me to wrap my head around but now, I'm easily playing around with those concepts, thanks to the daily effort I put into studying and practising every day. So, that's also a lot of progress for me, and I'm happy with how much I have learned over the past few weeks.

E is for energy and yes, I do have a lot of that. I mean, we young folks have a lot of energy to help us achieve our goals, and I feel that the efficiency of that energy depends on your motivation. Some people have lots of energy but aren't motivated to use it, probably because they are channelling it into the wrong thing. For me, I am highly motivated to achieve my goals, and that makes me to efficiently use my energy. For example, It's not easy to combine Hive with other major aspects of our lives, those of you who have 9 to 5 jobs or students in the university know what I'm talking about.

But here I am, balancing my life in Hive and also my chosen career path. It's easy to be drained out within a short while, considering I take programming courses online every day, work on projects, engage on hive and also write articles. Some days, I even publish two articles, it's not easy but as I said, I'm highly motivated and that's what is fueling my energy. So, that's why I chose the triangle shape, it perfectly describes my life right now as it relates to balance, energy and progress.
