Sacrifices must be made
Great achievement is usually born of great sacrifice, and is never the result of selfishness ~ Napoleon Hill
In this life, I have come to realize that to achieve something good, you will have to sacrifice something in exchange for it. Now, I'm not talking about the type of sacrifice that involves voodoo or rituals (Kanayo gang) but I'm talking about those that involve things like time, money, energy, social life, etc. What I mean is that some people sacrifice their time, energy, money and other things so that they can achieve something great.
For example, many of us here on Hive sacrifice our time just so that we can achieve something great here. People in business at one point sacrifice their money just so that they can make consistent profits in the long run. Farmers sacrifice their energy on their farms so that they can enjoy a bountiful harvest later on. We make sacrifices every day even though you don't specifically call it that but the principle remains the same. On that note, the one thing I will be sacrificing this year is …
Mobile Gaming
I love video games a lot and I could actually spend the whole day playing games without seeing it as a big deal. Ok not “could” but it actually did happen; there was a day I played games throughout without doing anything else. It was so bad that even when I was eating, I was still playing. This happened back in 2022 when I installed a new game on my phone called Mobile Legends.
That game is very very addictive, I have been playing it for close to 2 years now and I'm still not bored. When I first installed it, I played it every time and I even abandoned Hive for some time because of it. Even when I was in the university, I still squeezed out time to play games, including during exam periods. I will read small, then start playing the game. Now I'm not saying it's bad to play games but just like everything else, doing it too much is bad.
Last December, I decided to make goals for 2024 because I realized I need to be focused this year and having goals is one good way of doing so. Things started well in the first week of January and I completely forgot about gaming but guess who is back to gaming again 😂 I was supposed to publish 2 articles today but see me now trying to publish just one before today ends because I spent a major part of today playing games.
Just in case you don't realize what's going on, let me spell it out; I relapsed 😩 I successfully stayed away from gaming last week and I achieved a lot daily because of that. I could game for up to 6 hours in a day but if I'm to put that 6 hours into something productive, wouldn't it have been better? It usually starts with “Let me just play one match,” but before you know it, I have already spent 2 hours on the game and I keep saying “Just this last one.”
One of my goals for this year is to do coding every day but I didn't even put on my laptop today because… you already know why. I just keep telling myself “I'm stressed out, I need to relax with a few minutes of gaming.” But a few minutes quickly run into hours and I end up not doing some of the things I set out to do in the day. I actually know the solution to this problem but I have been avoiding it; total removal of the games on my phone.
I have actually done this before back in 2021 when I started learning coding, I uninstalled all my games and stayed off social media for over 6 months. I was able to achieve a lot within those 6 months which I know I couldn't have been able to even in a year if I still had access to those games. So right now, I'm seriously considering that route and will just uninstall the games if it turns out I can't discipline myself to control the frequency of playing games.

Getting off the games won't be quite as easy. You could get another game, a more productive game that won't be so easy to spend 6 hours on.
Like chess, cards, or even monopoly. Once you get the urge to play, you play them. After a while, you either get tired or bored.
Then you'll do something else with your time.
Just a suggestion 🤤
If it doesn't work out don't come and beat me ooo😂
😂 I think this actually makes sense, instead of trying to totally avoid game, I can just replace the one that I'm addicted to with a more productive game. I will definitely give this a try, thank you boss 🙌
I know how hard I tried to quit play Mortal Kombat then, the addiction was much that I spent all the COVID break playing it.
I stopped it when I took a bold step of uninstalling it from my phone and never followed my friend to game stations. Just be determined my brother.
I think that's the step I will have to take; uninstalling the game from my phone. I believe that will be the best solution to my problem. Thanks for stopping by
