Being social used to be fun

It looks like most of us here in this community are introverts (and ambiverts), at least that's what I have observed from the entries I have seen on this topic. When it comes to social activities, introverts are generally seen as non-social because that's just their nature, they spend more time indoors and that's where they thrive best, just like how extroverts thrice more outdoors. It's funny how I have experienced both worlds, I was an extrovert until the COVID-19 lockdown.

Before 2020, I was a big-time extrovert with lots of energy for social activities. Before I got admitted into the university, I was rarely at home because after having my breakfast and taking my bath, I zoomed out of the house and hung out with my friends till evening. I enjoyed being outdoors and just goofing around with my friends, I wasn't addicted to my phone then and it was probably because it was expensive to buy data then (N1000 for 260 MB 💀). I took that same lifestyle to the university, and I became very popular in my first year.

But things changed during the COVID-19 lockdown, I just woke up one morning and decided to put my life in order, rather than always spending time on social media. I started learning graphics design, and later on switched to learning coding. I spent most of my time coding and even had to freeze my WhatsApp just so I wouldn't be distracted. In the end, I became an introvert and lost a lot of friends in the process. I wasn't bothered though, there's a popular quote that says you will lose a lot of friends when you start putting in more effort to secure your future.

I am always thinking about how to make money and not just thinking but also carrying out my plans to make sure I come out successful. This is in contrast to how I was before, when I was only bothered about how I will get money to buy data subscription just so I could go on Twitter and "catch cruise". I never thought about planning for the future but after getting tired of the same daily routine during the COVID-19 period, I decided to make drastic changes in my life, and that led to sacrificing my social life

Right now, I have gotten used to the introverted lifestyle and I am loving it. Being an extrovert was fun but I realized I would not be able to achieve my goals in life if I continued that way. 24 hours is barely enough for me to complete most of my daily activities, so that means I don't even bother to go out. I am always on my phone and laptop either doing something on Hive, working on a coding project or just taking a break by playing a video game or watching a movie. This has affected my relationship with others because I no longer chat with them on Whatsapp like I used to.

Anyway, I wouldn't give this lifestyle up in exchange for the old one. Being non-social has helped me achieve a lot over the years more than the time I was an extrovert. Although I know that there are some benefits that come with being social but those benefits don't fit into the goals I have, so I just have to focus on the one that works for me. Being social was once fun for me but now it can be draining, I rather spend time alone and watch a movie than be engaged in one social activity or the other.
