A recap for the month of May

May has turned out to be my favourite month for this year and it's because of the things I have achieved and the progress I have made this month. Each past month came with their own challenges which made them an awful experience for me but May came as a beacon of hope in a dark tunnel. From learning a new skill to finding additional sources of income, to my experience with inLeo premium, May has been a very fulfilling and productive month and I will go through each of these things one by one.

InLeo premium

I was one of the winners of a premium account from last month inLeo's monthly prompt initiatives and I got the premium in the middle of this month. I have always known about the premium account for a while now but I never thought much about it because I felt it was too expensive and there weren't many differences with a regular account, but I was dead wrong. A few days into using the premium account, I was already telling myself "I'm definitely going to renew when this one expires," the experience has been fantastic!

I quickly dumped the "this is too expensive" mentality because I realized that the premium could already pay for itself just a few days into using it. It's like an investment and the return on investment is already over 100% in just the first week of using it, so it makes sense to renew when it expires. The other benefits attached to the premium account are also quite interesting because now I can post longer threads and if you have come across my threads you will observe that they are long. The ability to edit your posts is another sweet benefit

Learning a new skill

I have been learning web development for about 6 months now and I never learned web design because they are two different fields but a software engineer on YouTube recommended beginner web developers should also learn web design because it's easier to build personal projects if you already have a design. So, I took that advice and started learning web design 2 weeks ago. I read a web design book and took a shot at designing a web page and the result was not so bad for a beginner.

I decided to take the project seriously and use it to fulfil a project assignment given in a computer science course I'm taking online at Harvard University. Since it's a website for a local bakery, I researched other bakery websites and saw how they looked. I decided to redesign the whole thing and make it look more fun, rather than the initial one I did which looked a bit plain and boring. I am not done designing it and haven't even added colours yet (it's still in black and white) but I'm just happy with the progress I have made in web design.

Additional sources of income

Before now, I relied only on Hive as a source of income and while that worked out well when I was in the university, it's no longer plausible to do the same now considering how curation isn't always guaranteed. So, I did a little digging and found some other hustles I could be doing to get income. I discovered about 3 different platforms and one is even owned by Microsoft (it's called UHRS). These platforms are for freelancers, mostly doing microtasks/gigs and so far I have been doing a lot of gigs on them.

The Microsoft own is the most complicated but also the most rewarding, but sadly it doesn't have a lot of gigs all the time but that's the beauty of having multiple hustles; you can always jump around between them. But this also means that the things I do daily have increased and actually, this month of May is the busiest I have been in the entire year. Juggling 3 freelancing platforms, Hive, and coding can be very exhausting, not to mention the chores I also do at home and an example is cooking. I cook lunch for me and my sister on some days in the week, and this was what I made yesterday

Aside from the ones I mentioned, I have also started actively participating in crypto airdrops again. I used to do that a lot back in 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown but I stopped when I joined Hive. Now, I'm back at it this month and that's because of how well Notcoin did in its airdrop and due to FOMO, I have joined other trending airdrops as well. Juggling all these activities every day is very time-consuming but luckily I have a good time management system and a daily routine I follow.

Wrapping up

You can see why I said May is my favourite month this year. I started a lot of new activities (a new skill, inLeo premium, freelancing, airdrops) and I even applied for a web developer internship this same month. Initially, I was skeptical about my skills and wondered if I would be good enough for the internship but I realized that it's better to try and fail than to not try at all. May has been a fantastic month and even though my daily workload has tripled, I'm still very happy with the way things have turned out. Cheers to the end of a great month and big thanks to inLeo for this initiative. See you all next month

A favourite month for you indeed. Those tasks you have ventured you would sure take a whole lot of time and energy from you, but it is a good thing as you keep learning alongside too. All the best in a new month.
