Alex's Plight: A Short Story

Alex is a six years old boy who lost his both parents in a twinkle of an eye. Mr and Mrs Gabriel are both lawyers, they had a murder case which they're not going to let go, due to the atrocities their opponent Mr Godfrey has committed and his oppression towards the lower class in the state. Mr and Mrs Gabriel were shot by some group of hoodlums sent by Mr Godfrey on a Saturday evening right before the child "Alex " because they have refused to withdraw the murder case, despite so many consistent threats.

Due to shock, Alex the little boy lost his ability to speak, even when the police and neighbors were asking questions he was mute. He stayed with a neighbor Mr Jeff for sometime until they found a suitable place for him to stay.

"It is very difficult living with Alex, he stares whenever I try asking him questions or conversing with him," Mr Jeff said looking frustrated. It was concluded by the police that Alex will be taken to the orphanage home where he could find his peers, then maybe he'll begin to speak.

Alex was taken to the orphanage home, the matron and caregivers were very nice to the entire children. Alex always loves sitting alone to play, eat and doesn't associate himself with other kids. Some kids always call him dumb, make jest of him and always segregate themselves from him due to his inability to speak, as a result of the shock and fear watching the barbaric scene on how his both parents were killed.

Whenever the caregiver tries talking to him, he only nods his head up to agree and his head down to decline. This kept happening continuously, for a long time and there was no improvement in his situation. The plight of Alex towards the orphanage home was ineffective.

Mrs Ruth called the attention of the police incharge of Alex case, she advised he should be taken to a therapist, the DOP replied nodding his head in fascination, "let's see how it works, there's a possibility that he could speak.Alex needs an acquaintance, who will not be irritated with his present predicament". Thank you matron, I appreciate your strength and kind gesture.

Alex was introduced to Mr Vicente, a children therapist, Mr Vicente insinuated that Alex come stay with him in his house so that he can give a close watch on him. Every morning Mr Alex goes to his room and asks him how his night went and asks him what he would want for breakfast, afternoons he's committed to Alex, and as well so friendly to him, they play together but still don't get bored with his unfortunate condition.

One day Mr Vicente, bought equipment for making puppetry, that day was fun because Alex participated in puppetry making. How was fascinating it was Alex was happy, and always move along with the puppet he made joyfully

One day Alex was playing with his puppet and Mr Vicente was standing beside him fixing the raft of his house, surprisingly Alex spoke to the puppet. Mr Vicente was so happy and excited Alex could conquer the shock and fear in him and could speak again.
