Exposición de fotografía en el teatro/Photography Exhibition at the Theater (Esp-Eng)
Hola, mis amigos de Hive. Que placer saludarlos este sábado.
El teatro, por naturaleza, es un templo de lo efímero, de pasión, traiciones, alegrías, tristezas, mentiras y verdades. Sus paredes respiran aplausos, sus butacas han sido testigos de dramas, tragedias y comedias que nacen y mueren en una misma noche. Pero un teatro no solo es un sitio donde se dan funciones teatrales o espectáculos de otro tipo, también puede tener muchos usos, entre ellos, el de servir de sala de exposición. Y esto fue lo que vi en el teatro Karl Mars recientemente.

A theater, by its very nature, is a temple of the ephemeral, of passion, betrayals, joys, sorrows, lies, and truths. Its walls breathe applause, its seats have witnessed dramas, tragedies, and comedies that are born and die in a single night. But a theater is not only a place for plays or other types of shows; it can also have many uses, among them, serving as an exhibition hall. And this is what I saw recently at the Karl Marx Theater.
El Lobby estaba transformado. Al cruzar la puerta del iluminado y majestuoso vestíbulo, sus blancas paredes eran el soporte de una exposición fotográfica, una colección que convierte el lobby en una galería de almas. Mi primera impresión fue un contraste fascinante de colores, donde se mesclaban en perfecta armonía el blanco y el negro. El lujo, el buen gusto y la pucritud de este lugar son cegadores. Como tenía tiempo antes de que empezara el espectáculo que fui a ver, aproveché para disfrutar de esta exposición.
The lobby was transformed. Upon crossing the door into the illuminated and majestic foyer, its white walls served as the backdrop for a photography exhibition, a collection that turns the lobby into a gallery of souls. My first impression was a fascinating contrast of colors, where black and white blended in perfect harmony. The luxury, good taste, and beauty of this place are dazzling. As I had time before the show I went to see began, I took the opportunity to enjoy this exhibition.
La fotógrafa Susan Leal utiliza su estilo para deconstruir estas figuras públicas. Esta exposición lleva por título: "Regalándole la vida a una cancion" y tiene como protagonistas a varios artistas, cantantes y humoristas, que han pasado por este teatro. Entre ellos se encuentran la gran Omara Portuondo, ganadora de un Premio Grammy, Leoni Torres, Elain Morales, Liuba María Hevia, Alexis Díaz Pimienta, el reconocido repentista y otros. Además, también habían fotos de algunos de los humoristas que vería en unos minutos.
The photographer Susan Leal uses her style to deconstruct these public figures. This exhibition is titled: "Giving Life to a Song" and features various artists, singers, and comedians who have performed at this theater. Among them are the great Omara Portuondo, a Grammy Award winner, Leoni Torres, Elain Morales, Liuba María Hevia, Alexis Díaz Pimienta, the renowned improvisational poet, and others. Furthermore, there were also photos of some of the comedians I would see in a few minutes.
Mientras recorro la expo, el mundo se despoja del resto de sus colores para ser solo blanco y negro, la combinación perfecta. En cada rostro congelado tras el cristal hay un reflejo de vida y silencio. Estas imágenes, más que verse, se sienten. No son imágenes de las obras o espectaculos en sí, sino de los artistas en sus momentos más vulnerables y auténticos. El lente curioso de la fotógrafa se adentra en la fortaleza y en la fragilidad de los rostros, la textura de la piel joven y la envejecida. Al recorrer esta pequeña exposición, nos colamos en la soledad del creador.
As I walked through the exhibition, the world shed its other colors to be only black and white, the perfect combination. In every face frozen behind the glass, there is a reflection of life and silence. These images are felt, more than just seen. They are not images of the plays or shows themselves, but of the artists in their most vulnerable and authentic moments. The photographer's curious lens delves into the strength and fragility of the faces, the texture of young and aged skin. While walking through this small exhibition, we sneak into the solitude of the creator.
Esta exposición es un homenaje en blanco y negro a los héroes cuyas manos, voces y cuerpos, moldean la magia de la escena cubana. Estas fotografías no hablan de los personajes, sino de las personas que los habitan. El lobby de este prestigioso teatro dejó de ser un simple espacio de tránsito. Al dirigirme a la sala principal para ver el espectáculo humorístico, llevaba conmigo una carga nueva, la satisfacción de haber visto, de antemano, algunos rostros de los personaje que vería en escena, sus manos, sus miradas, su humanidad.
This exhibition is a black and white tribute to the heroes whose hands, voices, and bodies shape the magic of the Cuban stage. These photographs do not speak of the characters, but of the people who inhabit them. The lobby of this prestigious theater ceased to be a mere transitional space. As I headed to the main hall to see the comedy show, I carried with me a new weight: the satisfaction of having already seen, in advance, some of the faces of the characters I would see on stage, their hands, their gazes, their humanity.
¿Les cuento un detalle de ese día?
Tres días antes de ir al teatro me habían sacando un cordal y aún tenía la cara algo hinchada y adolorida, pero las ganas de ir a ver aquel espectáculo eran más grandes que cualquier otra cosa. En varios momentos sentí dolor, sin embargo, eso no fue motivo para no disfrutar de mi salida.
Shall I tell you a detail from that day?
Three days before going to the theater, I had a wisdom tooth removed and my face was still somewhat swollen and painful, but my desire to go see that show was greater than anything else. At several points I felt pain; however, that was no reason not to enjoy my night out.

Siempre me ha gustado esa capacidad de los cines y teatros cubanos para transformarse. De cierta manera son los espacios de exposición por excelencia, ya que el público acude quizás con una idea específica y en el proceso descubren otras posibilidades

¡Magnífico! Últimamente los teatros se han revitalizado. Además de los espectáculos fungen como galerías y tienen buenas cafeterías o restaurantes. La experiencia de ir a uno es cada vez más agradable. Mañana, justamente, planeo ir a la Sala Avellaneda. Quizás nos veamos allí 😉
