Hola, hivers y toda la familia teatrera.

En mi post anterior sobre este tema (Parte 1) les conté de mi ilusión con el teatro y de como quise ser actriz y pude. Hoy quiero hablarles sobre lo que siento, pienso y experimento cuando voy a ver una puesta en escena. Cada función teatral es una pieza única aunque sea la misma obra. Nunca un actor repite, con exactitud, su actuación anterior y eso es parte del encanto de disfrutar una obra en vivo. Entrar a una sala, ser parte de la penumbra y de la espera y ver como el telón se abre, nos convierte en testigos de un acto de irrepetible.

In my previous post on this topic (Part 1), I told you about my fascination with theater and how I wanted to be an actress and managed to become one. Today, I want to talk to you about what I feel, think, and experience when I go to see a stage production. Every theatrical performance is a unique piece, even if it's the same play. An actor never repeats their previous performance with exact precision, and that is part of the charm of enjoying a live show. Entering an auditorium, becoming part of the dim light and the anticipation, and watching the curtain rise transforms us into witnesses of a unique, unrepeatable act.

Mientras disfruto en el teatro, dejo atrás mis preocupaciones y rutinas para transportarme al sitio en que se desarrolla la obra, ya sea la Verona de Romeo y Julieta, a la Noruega de Hamlet, la España de Don Quijote o cualquier barrio de La Habana. Durante esas horas, me adentro y vivo las vidas de los personajes, atrapando emociones ajenas y explorando otras realidades que no son las mías.

While I'm enjoying the theater, I leave my worries and routines behind to transport myself to the setting of the play, whether it's the Verona of Romeo and Juliet, the Norway of Hamlet, the Spain of Don Quixote, or any neighborhood in Havana. During those hours, I immerse myself and live the lives of the characters, capturing foreign emotions and exploring other realities that are not my own.

Para mí, esta escapada al teatro es necesaria, al menos tres o cuatro veces al año tengo que hacerlo. Antes, cuando el transporte estaba mejor, iba al teatro con mucha más frecuencia, sin embargo, esa frecuencia ha disminuido grandemente por causas ajenas a mi voluntad. El placer de ir al teatro va más allá de la simple fuga a mis rutinas, cada vez que salgo de allí, lo hago con una perspectiva renovada de la vida. A diferencia del cine, el teatro es orgánico y vivo, es un goce estético y sensorial. En el teatro el espectador es testigo de la respiración entrecortada de un actor en un monólogo desgarrador, de esa maravillosa imperfección que nos hace humanos, de la energía que fluye entre el escenario y las butacas donde está asentado el público.

For me, this escape to the theater is necessary; I have to do it at least three or four times a year. Before, when transportation was better, I went to the theater much more frequently; however, that frequency has greatly decreased due to circumstances beyond my control. The pleasure of going to the theater goes beyond a simple escape from my routines; every time I leave, I do so with a renewed perspective on life. Unlike cinema, theater is organic and alive; it is an aesthetic and sensory delight. In the theater, the spectator witnesses the actor's ragged breath in a heart-wrenching monologue, that marvelous imperfection that makes us human, the energy that flows between the stage and the seats where the audience is settled.

Otra cosa que me gusta mucho del teatro es la escenografía que puede estar en constante cambio y movimiento, que nos sugiere situaciones y mundos con unas pocas decoraciones, con la luz y con la música. También está el vestuario, los gestos, la expresión corporal de los actores y escuchar su respiración. Todos estos elementos se unen para ir creando espectativas en los que como yo, van al teatro en busca de emociones y de unas horas alejada de redes y tecnologías. El teatro ofrece una complicidad que no la da el cine ni la TV y en algunas ocaciones, nos permite interactuar con los artistas. Y como se disfruta esa carcajada gigante y colectiva cuando vemos una obra humorista, y ese nudo en la garganta cuando vemos una obra dramáticas, o esa lágrima cuando vemos una tragedia.

Another thing I really like about the theater is the scenography, which can be in constant change and motion, suggesting situations and worlds with just a few decorations, with light and with music. There is also the costumes, the gestures, the actors' body language, and hearing their breath. All these elements come together to build anticipation in those who, like me, go to the theater in search of emotions and a few hours away from networks and technology. Theater offers a complicity that cinema and TV cannot provide, and on some occasions, it allows us to interact with the artists. And how we enjoy that giant, collective laughter when we watch a comedy, that lump in the throat when we see a drama, or that tear when we witness a tragedy.

El gusto por el teatro es el amor por lo efímero y lo eterno, por lo individual y lo colectivo, por la belleza y la verdad, por lo real y lo maravilloso. Es un placer que nos conecta y nos hace empatizar con héroes y villanos. Por eso que pienso que mientras el hombre tenga la necesidad de contar y escuchar historias, el teatro seguirá vivo como una opción insustituible. Al salir de una función llevamos con nosotros el recuerdo de lo visto y lo vivido, pero también salimos con cierta inquietud, con algún enigma o pregunta que rondará nuestra cabeza durante varios días.

The love for theater is a love for the ephemeral and the eternal, for the individual and the collective, for beauty and truth, for the real and the marvelous. It is a pleasure that connects us and makes us empathize with heroes and villains. That's why I believe that as long as humans have the need to tell and listen to stories, theater will remain alive as an irreplaceable option. When we leave a performance, we carry with us the memory of what we saw and experienced, but we also leave with a certain restlessness, with some enigma or question that will linger in our heads for several days.
