Hello, hivers. A fraternal greeting to all.
Despite all the hardships, today, October 20th, Cuba is celebrating; it is Cuban National Culture Day. On a day like today, the notes of our National Anthem, created by Perucho Figueredo, were intoned for the first time. For this reason, the closing of the National Culture Day event is taking place across the country. In Artemisa province, this closing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the UNEAC.

This celebration was hosted by writer and journalist Reinier Del Pino and presided over by Danilo Díaz, president of the UNEAC, and Ivon Álvarez, Provincial Director of Culture. Among its participants was a group of cultural workers and the general public. The musical part was provided by guitarist Valentín Puente and singer Alberto Águila, who delighted us with several pieces, including a masterful performance of "La bayamesa".

The event also served to award the annual "La pupila insomne" Creation Grant, which awards a sonnet book project. Mireisy García Rojas, director of the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, was in charge of announcing the results, where a poet and user of this platform received an honorable mention for her collection: En la costilla de Eva, I'm talking about @maiasun84. The creation grant was awarded to the writer from Matanzas, Carlos Etiel, for his collection: El reto de Sísifo. The occasion also served for the inauguration and awarding of the Provincial Visual Arts Salon, with an exhibition by various painters and photographers. In this case, the award-winning work was: "Guerra fría," by photographer Alberto Borrego.

This celebration of our culture, in general, is above all a journey to our roots and our ancestors. It is the pleasure of recognizing ourselves in the verses and texts of our poets and storytellers, in the melodies that other generations have revered, in the colors and forms of our popular art. Every traditional dance performed in a square or any other place is not just a spectacle; it is the living memory of our ancestors moving to the rhythm of the past and the present. Every typical dish we share is more than a simple delicacy; it is a ritual that fuses history, land, and family wisdom.

The joy of this day stems from the reunion, from knowing we are part of an authentic cultural mix, of this great ajiaco that is the Cuban nationality. This joy transcends the individual; it is a collective emotion that beats in unison like the heart of a people that dreams and yearns for a better future; it is a collective embrace to honor the soul that defines and unites us. By vibrating with our music, by being moved by our stories, by laughing with our very particular humor, we are telling the world that our identity is valuable and worthy of being preserved.

Beyond differences, scarcity, and needs, we Cubans share a heritage that gives us identity, unites us, and fills us with pride—a pride that deserves to be sung, danced, and celebrated with an open heart. Honoring our traditions and our orishas makes us aware that we are links in the creative chain, that we have the responsibility and the privilege of enriching this legacy for those who will come. Because Cuba is, above all things, hope.
