Crónica del día "atravesado"/Chronicle of the "Awkward" Day (Esp-Eng)
Hello, hivers. What a pleasure to greet you. Today is my debut in this community, I hope you enjoy my post. Everyone is welcome to my blog.
Every Wednesday, known in popular slang as the "awkward" day of the week, I get ready to go to the university. With the best attitude, I get up without complaining at 5 am, get ready, and head to the park about five blocks from my house to queue up for the gacela. The gacela is a small yellow bus (my favorite color), very similar to an ambulance, that serves as public transport and is quite economical compared to other means of transportation. These gacelas have a capacity for 13 passengers (a somewhat controversial number with a dubious reputation).

Precisely because of this transport's limited capacity, many people, like me, get up early to catch the first ones. This "operation" can have its risks, because it can easily happen that no gacela comes to work due to a lack of fuel, which is very common around here. But today wasn't one of those days; I arrived at the park and there were only two people. I asked for the last ticket and sat down.

There, I indirectly learned about the life story and career trajectory of the woman who gave me the ticket, a retired Lieutenant Colonel. I heard about her exploits, successes, and even her battles with superiors in her early days. In queues, you find out about many things, even without asking. You just have to pay attention🤭.

The first gacela arrived at 6:60 am (Note: 7:00 am), and with such good luck, I was on it. As almost always, I am one of the first to arrive at the school. By around 7 am, the day hadn't even dawned yet, and I was already there. So I sit in the lobby waiting for the man in charge of opening the classrooms to arrive.

While I wait, the mosquitoes take the opportunity to have their way with my skin. There's a time between 7 am and 8 am when, they say, the female mosquitoes come out to feed, and today, they definitely had a exquisite feast with me. I just hope none of them were an aedes. When it finally got light, I managed to see a small red squirrel on a tree trunk.

At the entrance of my faculty, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, there is a sculptural bust that is supposedly of our national poet, Nicolás Guillén. In all honesty, I don't see a great resemblance to Guillén; they say it was made by a student from the Faculty of Fine Arts. The piece itself is a well-crafted work of art, but as for a great resemblance, a real likeness to the poet, I don't see much.

Between class shifts, through the classroom window, I can see a beautiful landscape that includes hotels, embassies, and even the sea. For some strange reason, the places I've ended up frequenting during my life always lead me to the sea.

The return trip is a bit more complicated; I no longer have the gacela, so I've adopted a new strategy that saves me time and hassle. I walk about three kilometers to a bus stop where I have several transport options that take me very close to my home.

For me, Wednesdays are not the "awkward" day of the week, the day when a pile of knowledge and tasks that force me to research "get in my way," for the better. Wednesday "pierces" my soul like Cupid's arrow and makes me fall in love; it's the day I meet with my few female classmates to share knowledge and, above all, to learn.

Creo que la tuya es de las mejores maneras humanamente posibles de pasar el "día atravesado", aunque la verdad nunca entendí la tirria con el pobre miércoles, el día de Odín.
