Good afternoon everyone, hope you've had a great weekend!

Currently, we are docked up/stuck due to some heavy winds. This week we will be trying to get down the east coast of America as l will be going to Germany around the 20th of October so, l can guarantee that the next month will be very hectic, but l do hope that I'll get the chance to write my blogs. Unfortunately l am still not up-to-date with my drone footage so today l will be sharing a blog about Skidegate narrows. Enjoy!

---Im Moment liegen wir wegen starken Windes fest. Diese Woche werden wir versuchen, die Ostküste Amerikas hinunterzufahren, da ich um den 20. Oktober herum nach Deutschland reisen werde. Ich kann also garantieren, dass der kommende Monat sehr hektisch wird, aber ich hoffe sehr, dass ich die Gelegenheit finde, meine Blogs zu schreiben. Leider bin ich mit meinem Drohnenmaterial immer noch nicht auf dem neuesten Stand, deshalb werde ich heute einen Blog über die Skidegate Enge teilen. Viel Spaß!

Skidegate Narrows:

Before heading into the Skidegate Narrows we wanted to get some knowledge from another sailor who had already gone through and he told us that we should we go at slack-high-tide and he also told us that many many boats hit the seabed, but as experienced sailors who have already gone through many narrows we weren't afraid.

Bevor wir in die Skidegate Enge einfuhren, wollten wir uns bei einem anderen Segler erkundigen, der sie bereits durchquert hatte. Er riet uns, während der Stillwasserzeit bei Flut zu fahren, und erzählte uns auch, dass schon sehr viele Boote dort auf Grund gelaufen seien. Aber als erfahrene Segler, die bereits viele Engstellen durchquert haben, hatten wir keine Angst.

We got our timing a little inaccurate and as we approached the narrows we were really getting sucked in doing about 8 knots, which for our boat is considered very fast. Now l didn't take the drone out only for photography but also to double check where to go even though there were markers, as on a sunny day and in shallow waters it is very easy to see where it is deeper from the sky.

Wir hatten unseren Zeitpunkt etwas falsch eingeschätzt, und als wir uns der Enge näherten, wurden wir wirklich mitgerissen und erreichten etwa 8 Knoten, was für unser Boot als sehr schnell gilt. Ich habe die Drohne nicht nur für Fotos eingesetzt, sondern auch, um noch einmal zu überprüfen, wohin wir fahren sollten, obwohl Markierungen vorhanden waren. Denn an einem sonnigen Tag und in flachem Gewässer kann man aus der Luft sehr leicht erkennen, wo es tiefer ist.

And right here you can see the strength of the current if you look at the marker. l did make a video about how we went through the entire narrows and its interesting to look at the video because it seems like we are drifting or sliding across. When we were trying to go to each marker you could see how our boat was basically going diagonal which was quite fascinating to watch.

Und hier genau kann man die Stärke der Strömung sehen, wenn man sich die Boje ansieht. Ich habe tatsächlich ein Video darüber gedreht, wie wir die gesamte Enge durchquert haben, und es ist interessant, sich das Video anzusehen, denn es sieht so aus, als würden wir treiben oder seitwärts rutschen. Als wir versucht haben, von einer Boje zur nächsten zu fahren, konnte man sehen, wie unser Boot praktisch schräg ging, was ziemlich faszinierend anzusehen war.

As we approached the end of the narrows there was the last part which was very narrow and of course l had only 25 percent left on my drone battery, but l still said l had enough to land safely, then suddenly my phone starts beeping telling me that l can't go forwards anymore, so as the boat was going further and further away, and l was slowly losing my connection l could go side to side, and so l had to make a quick decision and land on either side of the narrows - looking at my screen it seemed like l landed pretty bad, but after getting through the last part and dropping the dingy to get the drone back - l found it in perfect condition!

Als wir uns dem Ende der Enge näherten, kam der letzte Abschnitt, der sehr schmal war, und natürlich hatte meine Drohne nur noch 25 Prozent Akku. Aber ich dachte mir, das reicht noch für eine sichere Landung. Plötzlich piepst mein Telefon und warnt mich, dass ich nicht mehr weiter nach vorne fliegen kann. Während das Boot also immer weiter wegfuhr und ich langsam die Verbindung verlor, konnte ich nur noch seitwärts steuern. Also musste ich eine schnelle Entscheidung treffen und auf einer der beiden Seiten der Enge landen – auf dem Bildschirm sah es so aus, als wäre die Landung ziemlich schlecht gelaufen. Aber nachdem wir den letzten Teil passiert und das Beiboot zu Wasser gelassen hatten, um die Drohne zu holen, fand ich sie in einwandfreiem Zustand vor!

Then, after retrieving my drone back l realized that my drone had a limited distance, and with just a small clicked it was unlimited, now l won't ever have that problem.

Dann, nachdem ich meine Drohne geborgen hatte, wurde mir klar, dass die Reichweite meiner Drohne begrenzt war. Und mit nur einem kleinen Klick war sie unbegrenzt – jetzt werde ich dieses Problem nie wieder haben.

It's pretty terrifying driving into this, but as soon as you realize it's just seaweed everything is calm.

Es ist ziemlich unheimlich, da hineinzufahren, aber sobald man erkennt, dass es nur Seetang ist, ist alles wieder ruhig.
