Security Cove:

If you just take a small peep at the map you will straight away notice why this Cove is called, "Security Cove". After spending two nights in Clapp Basin which l talked about in my last blog, we headed on over to this Cove. As you can see in the image above it took us a bit to reach the middle of the anchorage where we could drop our anchor.

Wenn man nur einen kurzen Blick auf die Karte wirft, merkt man sofort, warum diese Bucht „Security Cove“ genannt wird. Nachdem wir zwei Nächte im Clapp Basin verbracht haben (worüber ich in meinem letzten Blog gesprochen habe), sind wir weiter zu dieser Bucht gefahren. Wie man auf dem Bild oben sehen kann, hat es eine Weile gedauert, bis wir die Mitte des Ankerplatzes erreichen konnten, wo wir unseren Anker werfen konnten.

This anchorage wasn't too deep, just above 25 meters which for us is normal and there is even a formula that we use, (2x+15) and "x" is for the deep, so you would double the depth and add another 15 meters of chain and just for safety you can let even more chain out, and as sailors we always say: "the chain doesn't belong in the boat".

Dieser Ankerplatz war nicht zu tief, nur etwas über 25 Meter, was für uns normal ist, und es gibt sogar eine Formel, die wir verwenden (2x+15), wobei „x“ für die Tiefe steht. Man verdoppelt die Tiefe und addiert weitere 15 Meter Kette hinzu. Zur Sicherheit kann man sogar noch mehr Kette auslegen, und unter Seglern sagen wir immer: „Die Kette gehört nicht ins Boot.“

At this time it was already quite late in the salmon season and as we enjoyed the beautiful scenery as seen with the drone we noticed many fish tails pop-up out of the water. We took out one rod and tried catching some but after that school of salmon went around our boat a few times we realized they were completely uninterested in our lure, why? Because they were already half-dead and this is completely normal for the salmon cycle. Usually you don't want to catch those salmon which are half dead as the fish meat doesn't taste as good as it does when the salmon season starts.

Zu diesem Zeitpunkt war die Lachssaison bereits ziemlich weit fortgeschritten. Während wir die wunderschöne Landschaft genossen, wie sie mit der Drohne zu sehen war, bemerkten wir viele Fischschwänze, die aus dem Wasser auftauchten. Wir holten eine Angelrute heraus und versuchten, einige zu fangen, aber nachdem die Lachsschwärme mehrmals um unser Boot schwammen, merkten wir, dass sie völlig uninteressiert an unserem Köder waren. Warum? Weil sie bereits halb tot waren, und das ist im Lachskreislauf völlig normal. Normalerweise möchte man solche halb toten Lachse nicht fangen, da das Fleisch nicht so gut schmeckt wie zu Beginn der Lachssaison.
