This particular day
It was evening around 6:30 pm when I returned from evening church service. Mom and Dad were not around, and I didn't mind. I just dropped my Bible, pulled off my clothes, and found myself in the kitchen to quench my fasting for the day — fasting that later turned into a mere hunger strike due to the nonchalant attitude I approached it with. That kind of feeding doesn't need a good table setting; my intestines were fighting World War III in my stomach, and I needed to step in as the peacemaker with modules of 'eba' (cassava flake). I killed the idea of going to the dining, I sat on a bench in the kitchen and began to fill my stomach.
Not up to 2 minutes later, someone walked in. "Brother, Dad and Mom are calling you, and it's urgent," said one of my siblings, Azubuike, who walked away as soon as he delivered the message, sounding like he was forced to come and call me.
The urgency of the call made me wash off my hands, leaving my half-eaten food behind, and head to the parlour.
"Good evening, sir. Good evening, ma," I greeted as soon as I stepped into the parlour to see the two of them seated with their hands folded on their chests, which sent shivers down my spine because Nollywood has it that once a scene like that appears, it means there's trouble.
"You know Juliet, right? Your niece that once stayed with us?" my dad asked.
"Yeah, I know that girl. What happened to her?" My voice was shaky because my mind went far with the thought that something bad had happened to her.
"Okay, her dad called me this evening to tell me that the girl is possessed with witchcraft, and they need a highly spiritual person to drive the spirit out of her," my dad said with all seriousness.
"Witchcraft? Hahahahah! They should take her to church as soon as possible," I laughed.
Before I knew it, my younger sister rushed into the parlour, grabbed me on the waist and said with loud laughter, "You're not getting it. They want you to take responsibility and cast away the demon from her."
"Yes, or you can't do it?" My mom, who had been silent all through, broke her silence.
I was pulling out loud laughter because It sounded like they were shooting a movie, and they needed me as a surprise cast to spice up the fun. But when I checked their faces, they were dead serious with no laughter. It was only my sister with us who was muffling out laughter.
"Me? Just because I go to church always, you think I have the capacity to cast away a demon?" I chipped in, looking at their faces.
"Brother, stop it. You can do it. You fasted today, which shows you're charged to cast away anything," my sister said, seemingly sent by the devil to taunt me.
"Let me tell you, I stopped my fasting today around 11:00 a.m when I couldn't resist the aroma of the newly cooked soup for breakfast. I sneaked in to eat when you guys left, and I pretended to continue my fasting afterwards. Do you want me to go and confront the demon with that low-budget power? I'm sure the demon will tie my hands and whoop me very well for coming to disturb it and...."

Finally my mom and dad let out their laughter with got me interrupted. The humor hit them hard, especially with the added confession.
My dad got up. "I thought you were genuine with your churchgoing. Look, an ordinary demon in a 10-year-old girl, and you can't cast it away," he said as he hissed and walked away.
My ribs raised up in laughter. I held them with my hands, finding it hard to believe the humorous hit my dad just dropped on the ground.
I later heard that the girl was taken to church to meet a man of God, and she was delivered after a series of castings and bindings.
Thank you for reading.

I swear, Kingsley needs better flogging 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣, I support and I will bring the whip too.
Please bring the biggest one and rub pepper 😆😆😆
You got it, 👍.
See your mouth 😅
Demons are not measured in sizes.
Even a 1year old demon can flog mercilessly 20 years old religious man if he's not strong 😅
The reason I didn't try to step up to the game. I love lu life
😂😂😂😂😂👍
Going to church doesn't mean you'll be able to cast out demons... These things are actually complex.
But it was somehow funny, especially with the fact that all eyes were on the innocent you😅😅😅
Hahahahah 🤣
I couldn't imagine myself going to such mission...just because I go to church always 🤣

You must give people the idea that you are a holy man with your consistent church-going, @kingsleyy. Thank you for joining the "humour" prompt!
Lol😅
People should know that not everyone is 'anointed' to perform such miracles
Thank you admin

Prophet @kingsleyy, I am greeting you man of God 😂😂
Imagine a small demon you could not cast and bind out of a young girl after you will be flaunting that your holy holy around everyone 😆😆😆
Your family gave me a good laugh. I am sure there's no dull moment in your house. I love the way you described the scenes it was funny as well because I could relate to them 😁😁
On a serious note, I can imagine the look on your face when your parents dropped the bombshell about casting out a demon. The way you described the situation with such wit and humor is just priceless.
The way you questioned your ability to perform such a task after breaking your fast early is both relatable and funny. And the twist with your sister egging you on with that devilish comment about being charged up from fasting is just too good.
The whole scenario with your family's serious faces contrasting with your disbelief and humor is comedy gold. Your dad's final punchline about an ordinary demon in a 10-year-old girl and your inability to cast it out is just the cherry on top.
Well done sir, you did us good with this prompt 🤭
Teeeeeeeh!
Is today your posting day? Lol 😅
Your comment made me to go and re-read my write to see if it's worth this hype 😅
You're a chorister in your church right? You should be able to cast out demons too... except your chorister thing is a bench warmer thing🤣
Thank you so much.
If you like, don't reply DM 😎
Fasting can be really hard, especially if you don't have people to support you with it. I'm glad my family supported me whenever I did a fast.
This was an interesting and relatable story.
That's nice of your family.
In my home, not everyone has interest in fasting, so most of the days ofu fast, I would be battling with sweet, tempting aroma of food😅.
