The Two Sides of Purchase

avatar

Greetings everyone! šŸ™Œ

Many times, I've found myself settling for low-budget items when purchasing gadgets, and these low-budget items often turn out to be low quality. This resulted in many of them getting damaged or becoming useless in a short time, while a few lasted for a good length of period.

In this article, I'll share instances when my purchases either fulfilled their intended purpose and endured over time or fell short in doing so.

My Infinix Hot 9 Play:

I've never been a fan of changing phones every year or every six months, like others brag. I use a phone until it exceeds its lasting limit or until I'm finally tired and ready to get a new one.
Before December 2023, I used my Ā£Infinix Hot 9 PlayĀ£ for three whole years. I bought it in November 2020 when we were getting eased off with the COVID-19 situation, and this phone never gave me any alarming issues throughout the years of usage, aside from how I overloaded it with congested apps, which it cried many times, but I played deaf.

Funny enough, it's a 2GB RAM phone, and it's really strange when people hear that I use a 2GB RAM phone in this era. The phone over-served its purpose because I'm a heavy user, and normally it should have crashed by now, but no way, it's still working perfectly fine.

The phone is still with me; I'm yet to transfer all my files to the new one, and when I'm finally done, I'll be sending it home for any of my siblings to use.

Electric Pressing Iron:

This pressing iron is one of the worst things I bought last year. I needed to support the iron I was using, so I thought of purchasing a new one, but no, new ones easily spoil, especially when used on a generator instead of public electricity.
So, I went to the electrician who usually works on my iron whenever it gets faulty. I hinted to him about my interest in getting an alternative iron, and boom, he suggested the same; buy a fairly used one instead of a new one.
Okay, we agreed, he brought one out, we checked, and it was working fine. I haggled the price to my taste as if I'm buying fish in the market, and he succumbed. I got home, used the iron for three days, and it stopped "powering."

I returned it to him; he checked on it, identified the fault, and fixed it back. Funny enough, he demanded a repair fee which I bluntly refused to give him.

That week, I used it again for five days, and the same issue popped up. I got angry and dumped it because at that stage, if I sent it to him to repair, he would surely and strongly demand money, which would be difficult to dodge because he had repaired it once, and I didn't give him money. After a while, I decided to return to him; he checked, fixed it, and collected a token from me.

I used it again for just a day, and the same fault came up again. I just dumped it.
Till now, I haven't used it, and I'm not ready to repair.
What a waste of money!

My dear with the way power is holding back their power now in Nigeria we really need to buy electrical appliances that don't need to use NEPA to power it.
Some of those don't really last but when we get the real one it will actually serve us very well.
Thanks for sharing

Nigeria and power supply šŸ˜

But, there are places with good power supply in Nigeria and I envy such place. Akwa Ibom!

Yeah, for sure, it's better to get a good quality and be free from consecutive purchase.

I can relate with your pressing iron Selina because I have faced same issue with one I bought before, I dumped it and don't know how it ended. Moreso you enjoy ironing clothes too.

Getting good products can be heart warming because one will not need to be at the store all the time trying to change or something hence there are other needs to care for too.

I do wish you well in your endeavors

Buying a fairly used iron is very wrong o, you don't know how long it was used and something like that degrades over time. Another thing is the brand, electric iron like Philips lasts for a very long time and if you want to risk buying a fairly used iron, that's the one you should have gone for. That electrician just gave you an iron he has repaired over and over again šŸ˜…

This is a big considering factor.
However, everyone says it's better to buy a fairly used to the new one. That's why I went for such.

That electrician? God will have mercy on him

Eh ya, sorry ehn. The iron pain me o because it's a necessity but now you know. Always go for new items or gadgets with warranty. That way you have a bit of security in case of set back.

I donā€™t know why Iā€™m laughing over the iron issue.
But I donā€™t think buying fairly used items is actually a good thing.
People use ā€œfairly usedā€ for things that have been used over years.Sorry okay

Is it just me?

Over here, people say fairly used irons last longer than the new ones. That's why I went for it.

Maybe I need to push away that believe and for a new one, next time.
