The rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer

There is a lamentation of a man I came across last week and I couldn't just stop thinking about how funny and pitiful the way our existence was designed on this earth is—the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.

According to the man, he has a bank staff who is always calling him every now and then, marketing loans to him. He told the lady that he would patronise her but, for the moment, he didn't have anything he wanted to take a loan for. After about 5 months, someone in his community who wanted to travel abroad decided to sell some of his land to generate funds for the trip, so he met the young man to help him look for serious buyers. He promised that he would get a percentage too since he was the one acting as the agent. This young man thought it was a good opportunity for him to acquire land at such a cheap price, which was costing around 5 million naira. He didn't have any money with him, not even up to 100 thousand naira, so he decided to meet the bank loan staff who had been disturbing him to take a loan.

The bank staff, a woman, was very excited that she was finally getting a sale, so they began talking, and when she asked the man the amount of the loan needed, he said 5 million. She became shocked. Unfortunately, she told him that they could only lend him 200 thousand naira with collateral and all other requirements. The man got really angry because he thought all the calls and disturbances back then meant that the bank could offer him something reasonable, but the bank said no because that was his limit considering the inflows and outflows of money into his account. That was how he lost the opportunity to acquire the land at a cheap cost.

Do you know that if it were some of the richest people in my country that needed that loan to buy the land, the bank wouldn't have had any issue at all? In fact, the bank would be begging them to take loans, with no collateral. That's exactly how the world is—the rich will always keep getting better privileges and advantages to make more money with ease, while channels for the poor are always blocked or narrowed.
