The alarming hot weather

Greetings everyone,

Talking about the current hot, non-accommodating weather condition in Nigeria, I was thinking it's a universal thing until I came across some friends that are out of the African continent. One of them in the US said the weather is freezing there, and on the particular day we had the conversation, rain fell, and she was unable to go to work. That day was in the morning, and I looked at myself and saw how sweaty I was at that particular time. That's a morning when everywhere is supposed to be cool, but I was already sweaty.

That's exactly what we are currently facing in Nigeria: very hot weather. According to jokes going around, it's said that maybe the world is coming to an end because we haven't seen it in this fashion before. Maybe it's true; maybe the world is gradually telling us that it wants to retire.

Before now, this period was supposed to still have a bit of harmattan, and harmattan means cold weather. But now, it's the total opposite of it.

I remember the year 2019 when I was in the Eastern part of Nigeria and was working for a firm where lateness to work was not tolerated. Exactly in February, we had battles waking up to have a cold bath because the water was freezing. But look at it now; it's a complete opposite.

The worst part of it is that there is breeze outside, I mean in the environment, but this breeze does not penetrate or settle inside the house. This is why I stay out of the room at night; sometimes, I stay in the spacious compound till 1:00 am before I go inside. And the worst of it all is that power supply is very poor. It's only a few rich states in Nigeria that are enjoying light, which they use to power fans and air conditioners (AC).

This is affecting me very badly because I'm the type that loves cold weather. It's not like I sweat a lot to the tone of those that are chubby; no, I have a very slim nature, and I hate it when my body is soaked with sweat.

What can be done to remedy the situation?

Just like I read in social media, jokingly, some people are blaming the federal government for the harsh weather condition we are facing. Lol 🤣

Although the government can help a little by enforcing good power supply for people to utilize, it's totally beyond their control. The only solution as it is now solely depends on a positive change in weather condition, that is a good and continuous rainfall that will arrest the hot weather and lock it into hiding.

What's the guarantee that a good downpour would solve the problem?

I remember there was a time earlier this month when rain fell, and we were all happy that finally, the heat was going to stop. To be sincere, although the heat was not stopped, the intensity was reduced. It was not as fiery as it was. That was the power of just one rain. What will happen if there's a continuous downpour? That'll finally settle the situation.

You know what? When the cold weather finally comes, it's the same people that will go about complaining. WE ARE HUMANS 🥲
