Sugary & salty food
Salty or sugary food, which do I prefer?
Being very sincere here and not trying to appear otherwise so that I will not be judged badly for the intake of sugar, I prefer sugary food to salty food. Although I take sugary food in a moderate rate.
Come to think of it, have I really settled for salty food? No way!
The kind of meal I grew up with, I do not think there is anyone that is attached to saltiness as we see and buy some canned sugary foods. The only salty food I have tasted is food prepared at home by my female siblings, which mistakenly appeared salty due to a lack of measurement, and hey, I only tasted it and never settled for such a meal.
How do I sit down, relax, and eat food full of salt that will be slapping my chin as I take it in? No way!
I remember during those times, anytime they mistakenly cooked a salty meal, the males in the house would talk funnily and trash their cooking habits. We always found means to remedy the food, either by adding more ingredients to the meal to match the quantity of salt already therein. When it became worse to the extent that we could not just take it in again, we would pour it away.
It is so bad that in Nigerian homes as a whole, we do not have accurate measurements for salt input in cooking. We usually use eye gauge, which we are proud of as well because it usually goes well.😂
I have never seen a sachet, canned, or factory-prepared food that is basically salty. The only one close to that is soda water, which I have even forgotten how it tastes because it has been a long time since I had it.
But for sugary foods? Come on, count me in!
We have a lot of canned foods and drinks that are sugary in taste, and my taste buds do not detest them but rather go for them. We have a lot of them, ranging from soft drinks like Coca-Cola and the rest, and food items too that are sugary.
I know sugar, especially in excess, is not good for the body, but I still take in these soft drinks, though not on a daily basis. Sometimes when I get tired of the refined drinks, I go for natural ones like palm wine. Yes, sometimes I buy palm wine to take instead of buying the 'cooked' soft drinks we have.
Apart from buying sugary foods and drinks, I also prefer homemade food that is sugary to salty ones. A typical example is ripe plantain porridge, which is sugary in taste no matter how someone tries to supplement the taste. Not just this, we have coconut rice, which appears sugary due to the natural sugary taste of coconut.
There are just lots of sugary foods that are very okay and welcomed by the taste buds more than salty foods.
As I round up, I prefer to take sweet orange to lime, which is salty and slaps the chin when taken.
