Simple and wild pets? Not me!

Maybe it is from the way we were brought up. My family has never fancied the idea of owning pets, and it has always been like that. We only rear animals that we can use for food or sell when they get to their growth stage. Oh yes, we cannot rear animals that we do not eat; therefore, we stayed off non-eatable animals such as dogs, cats, and others.

With that, the idea of owning a pet has never crossed my mind. I can only appreciate other people with their pets, but hey, I do not see myself being an owner and condoning animalistic behaviour in my house.

But I lose it whenever I see people having pets beyond the mere animals. Like, what kind of lifestyle is that?

Imagine a situation where I went to a friend’s house to spend a weekend and, on getting there, I am greeted by a big “harmless” python. God knows that no matter what would be said about the harmlessness of the python, I will not stay in that house.

It is irritating.

Normally, the idea of having simple animals as pets is very irritating to me. I can only clap for the bond between owners and their pets, but I cannot imagine myself living in the same house with them. I will find it very irritating to see a dog or cat defecating in the parlour or at a distance close to me. No, no, no!

Not to talk of living in a house with a python moving on free will or a lion juggling around the house with its roar. No way!

No matter how beautiful they appear as animals, it is a no-no for me.

It is very dangerous.

This is the biggest dark side of having wild animals as pets. Even the common ones such as dogs and cats can be very crazy sometimes and attack their owners, members of the family, or strangers who come visiting the house. I am of the opinion that no matter how tamed wild animals may be, the wildness in them will always come alive one day. What if they sense danger and defensively strike someone in the house? Haaaa!

Wild animals should be left in the bush or the zoo. They have no connection with living with humans as pets.

When I was in Imo State some years back during a general election, one of the gubernatorial candidates of the state was said to have a python in his house. It was a rumour, but a very strong one, and because of that, people developed fear towards him. Although the state welcomes snakes because they are regarded as gods of the land, having a python as a pet or even caged somewhere in the house in the form of a zoo appeared very diabolical and sent a wrong message to the people.

Like I said, it was just a rumour, but it was very strong. It scared a lot of people and also made many people not vote for him.

Should I say what is on my mind? I just feel like having wild animals as pets has a sense of diabolism in it.

Thanks for reading.
