Praying for how long?
Greetings, music lovers.
Today's afternoon, I had a call from a friend. We haven't talked for a very long time; in fact, we only talked at the beginning of the year when we wished ourselves "happy new year." It's not pleasing to hear that this is someone who we used to talk every now and then....This Iife.
We got talking, and along the line, she mentioned a church program she was attending, and I jokingly chipped in, "What's the nature of the church program like? It's a marathon prayer hour for our dear nation, Nigeria?"
We burst into loud laughter because we once vowed never to go to any church program involving praying for the nation. Yes, I know it sounds weird, but that's the truth.
We ended the call, and I began to reminisce on what happened in Nigeria in 2020, and during the hit of the event, I and this my friend had a long chit chat centered on how long we've been praying for the nation, and it looked as if the prayers were not getting to the clouds, not to talk of heaven.
Okay, in case you don't know what happened in Nigeria in 2020, There was a mass protest against police & bad government, and the whole event resulted in a genocide, a very awful one that everyone of us has been living in pity for.
I got remembering the whole scene today when I heard the song FREETOWN by TEKNO. The music has its lyrics hitting hard on how long we've been praying while the bad leaders are getting more d^vilish every day.
🎶"For how long we go pray make e better"🎵
🎶 "Since Mama born me, my people dey pray, say make e better"🎶
🎶"Offering and tithe, every day them dey pay, say, Make e better"🎶 yrics
It didn't stop there; the lyrics above portrayed how we've been bent and blindfolded by religion. We prefer to pray, pray and pray, give offerings, tithe, and in exchange; we leave everything in the hands of God, even the things that we can easily clear up by ourselves.
We can vote out bad leaders by ourselves or make sure such people do not come to sit in such positions, but when you get to meet some religious people, they will say, "Let's pray and leave everything in the hands of God"

For how long are we going to pray?
I'm not saying that God doesn't answer prayer; of course He does, but he still needs us to make use of the conscience and brain He gave us.
Okay, for the genocide I mentioned above, it was a high-profile government official who ordered the soldiers to go and shoot at protesters.
After two years, this same person came out to contest for a big political position in the country, and hey, a lot of people got blindfolded, campaigned for him, and he won.
Now, we are still praying to God to help us when we had (and still have) the power to prevent evil happenings in the country.
For how long are we going to pray?
Let me stop here.

October 2020 was a sad time for everyone, no one expected it but we thank God it wasn't worse than that.
We still have to keep praying and hoping for a positive change.
