Population control In this country? No way!
Greetings everyone!
The talks about government mandating a specific number of children to help maintain the population of a country and also balance the economy of that country—or the world at large—is something that always sparks endless arguments. I have had this debate many times, and in the end, no final conclusion was ever reached because each of us had our different, yet concrete, viewpoints.
Mandating the Number of Children by Government: Is It Beneficial and Will It Work?
This is a double-edged sword. While it may appear beneficial in terms of matching and balancing the economy with the population, it will still be disadvantageous in the long run. There are just too many areas that will be affected when the population is capped, and although it may seem fine at the start, it could eventually stifle the country.
Sure, the economy might be stable and booming, right? But what about certain critical sectors?
Currently, there's an ongoing situation in my country where the youths are not showing interest in joining the army. Many state governments have started campaigns in their respective states, encouraging the youths to participate in recruitment. Now imagine if families were mandated to have just two children. I can tell you that no parent would want their only child to join the army—especially in a country like mine. Yes, I know the country may be well-managed and running smoothly by then, but the truth remains that cutting down the population will definitely affect certain sectors.
It's Better the Way It Is Currently. Yes, It Is!
I remember some months ago, we were seated in church, and among us was a lady who had already given birth to three children and was pregnant with the fourth. Along the line, someone jokingly said that once she gives birth, she should get ready to conceive another, and immediately, all of us shouted, “No oooh!” “In this economy?!”
This is the reality we are living in. People are aware of the current state of the economy, and they need no push or sermon to tell them how many children to have. Everyone has adjusted in giving birth to the number of children they can take care of, unlike the old traditional way of producing a complete football squad, with the idea that the elder ones will take care of the younger ones.
What If the Government Is Willing to Help Families and Improve Living Conditions to Implement Population Control?
Sorry to say, I have heard how governments in some parts of the world are keen on regulating the number of children a family can have, but I have never imagined that being a reality in my country. No way!
That’s when you’ll see that once a man’s life is smooth and running without financial strain, producing children in an unlimited way becomes easy peasy. Furthermore, people will religiously and traditionally cling to the belief that children are gifts from God, and that we do not have the right to limit God's blessings.
Thanks for reading.
I agree, mandating the number of children sounds good on paper, but in reality, it’s complicated. People are already adjusting based on economic conditions, and trying to enforce such a policy could create more problems than it solves, especially in countries with strong cultural and religious values.
Exactly!
Just like Nigeria, it can never work.
If it's implemented in the cities, people would be going to the rural areas to produce Children because they can't be tracked there 😅
