Not just a meal

Greetings!

I'm of the opinion that when selecting favourite meals, a lot needs to be considered and not just the taste or how studded the meal is. I know of a lot of people who consider a not-easy-to-get food as a favourite meal and I wonder what the "favourite food" tag on such food means when it's not eaten or seen often.

My favourite meal is the typical and common Nigerian food, swallow which comes in different dimensions such as fufu, eba, pounded yam and with a well-prepared soup.

Yes, I don't have a particular one as a favourite, as long as I have a swallow with a good soup on my table, I'm good to go. But when I mean soup, it doesn't mean any type of soup, it must be a soup I'm familiar with not one that I haven't tasted before like those deep indigenous soups. I remember tasting an Eastern indigenous soup for the first time and I almost puked. So it must be a soup I'm very familiar with such as Egusi, okro, banger and the rest.

I'm an African person and I grew up with this kind of food as main and regular food. In our home, we barely stayed a day without eating swallow. That's to tell you how serious we were with this food. It's not like we don't eat other meals like rice and beans, we did but skipping swallow was more like a Taboo for a day. This is because we have this food(garri) on standby. After all, we have a farm and this is commonly produced from our farm. Not just the garri, we have yams too.

What's so special about the Nigerian food?

This food lasts longer in the stomach:

As funny as this may sound, we were brought up to eat food that lasts longer in the stomach especially to help to withstand the hard work on the farm. Way back, farming was what we were groomed with and we were not found taking certain kinds of food such as tea and bread or noodles before going to work on the farm. Those kinds of food will get washed off with just the first set of sweat. So this swallow stays in the stomach longer and also helps in supplying the heavy energy needed for the work.

I've tried many times to adopt other foods such as rice as a favourite food but it has not worked. Many times I've tried staying away from Swallow food to switch to other "foreign" food but I would find myself crawling back to this meal after managing to stay away for just two to three days.

I'm not boasting, this food is what I can make with ease except for the pounded yam and fufu. These take a very long and hard process to arrive at. I don't have the mortal used in pounding it in my house right now.

For the soups, yeah I'm a very good cook, I find it very easy to prepare the soups I use.

Thanks for reading.

If this soup was prepared by you then you're really a good cook and a complete African man who likes a lot of protein in his food. The soup looks delicious.
