Nobody is ugly

This fact gets to every human as they grow into adulthood, and it is very funny how a lot of us, including me, used to think that the ugly ones, especially the women, would not get married because no man would want to settle with an ugly person. But just as it is currently, the once considered "ugly" ones get married before the beautiful ones. You want to say life is unfair sometimes? Of course no. Everything works as it has been programmed from the start.

Way back when I was in school, I had female friends, especially from the church setting. I had one who was considered ugly among the three of my friends. But guess what? The ugly one got married while we were on NYSC, and she has moved to Australia with her husband, while the beautiful ones among them are still believing in God for marriage.

It has not been easy restructuring the mindset of “ugliness and beauty” that I grew up with in the social setting, but that is what I am currently unlearning, knowing that no one is actually ugly, especially when it comes to selecting a life partner. Of course, I am not saying that one should not go for the looks that attract them. No, I am not saying that. But there are more features people look at and consider, and they may discard any physical abnormalities in case there are any.

This is even more real in this era where "beauty or handsomeness" can be bought with money. Oh yes, the presence of money has the ability to transform someone's look into something more enchanting, and this is not about surgeries. No, it is just a normal "soft" lifestyle. I remember there was this lady I considered to be ugly way back in school. We met online and later got to meet in person in the school environment. Upon seeing her, I gave up the idea of dating her because she was not looking like Kim Kardashian. But guess what? Each time I see her photos or see her with her beautiful family on Facebook, I keep wondering how she got transformed into a very beautiful lady.

In the case of men, the topic of being handsome mostly ends between the ages of 20 and 25. If any man is above this age and is still living in the realm of considering himself ugly or handsome, that man must have something wrong with him that he is yet to realize. At the age of adulthood, what validates a man is responsibility in all ways. These days, it has been centered more on having money. Yes, whenever a man is rich or wealthy, there is no way he can be considered ugly, even though he may have some physical impediments. We have a lot of people in this category in Nigeria, people who have physical downsides but, because they are rich, those characteristics are no longer noticed. Funny enough, they even have more access to "beautiful" ladies than guys who consider themselves handsome.
