No to violence
Right from time, the world has seen violence and glorified it, even though peace talks are preached alongside it. Countries like Russia and Iraq, which are known for war, are feared today due to their high level of warfare sophistication. They are hyped, and no country dares to go to war with them. They earned that reputation based on the victories they have achieved in wars and how 'troublesome' they are in conflict. This same pattern is reflected in our individual lives within the community. People known for their high level of violence are often hyped and celebrated as being smart and brave.
In case you have not noticed, I have seen a lot. In fact, way back when we were growing up, my dad used to criticize us for being too passive because we did not engage in fights. However, whenever we did and won, he celebrated us. It sounds funny, right? But that was the village lifestyle we grew up with.
In Nigeria, there are certain regions known for their violent nature, and no one dares to make trouble with them because of how deadly they are. These violent acts have made them feared and given them the appearance of conquerors because they can overpower anyone, any city, and possess their properties, just like in the olden days.
The truth is, no matter how much we try to preach peace, the hype and fear surrounding violent nations, cities, and individuals empower them to continue their lifestyle.
Apart from real-life occurrences, the entertainment industry is not left out in promoting violence. The violent characters are applauded and seen as the brave and smart ones, while those who seek peace are portrayed as weaklings. Even I would applaud an actor who is willing to fight and slaughter everyone for what he wants or believes in, while I would frown at the weakling who is always avoiding fights and aiming for peace. Of course, it is just a movie, and it should be entertaining. Lol.
If this is promoting violence, how can we reduce it or at least slow down its rapid increase in the world?
The problem of war and violence has existed since the beginning of time; it has just increased tremendously in this era. Now, violence has even seeped into homes, marriages, and relationships, and people have learned to manage it despite the sermons preaching against such things.
No lies—the increasing hype around violence has affected us badly. Maybe it is high time we stopped promoting violence in any form, including in movies and games. But even if these are stopped, what about real life? Some nations still take pride in their capacity for war and violence. Should those nations be dealt with? If they are dealt with, what will be the label given to the nation or group that subdued them?
We just have to keep preaching peace, no matter what. Let the people, nations, and everyone understand that there is nothing valuable in war and violence.
