My Woman My Everything // Throwback
In the year 2014, Patoranking and Wande Coal teamed up to give us an anthem-like hit song titled "My Woman, My Everything".
The anthem mentioned here refers to the chorus, which was one of the simplest choruses that everyone who was alive and conscious that year could sing along to. Yeah, the chorus was so common and popular that even people who didn’t naturally love the song found their mouths singing along once it came on:
"My woman, my everything"
"My woman ooo, my everything"
Funny enough, those are just the basic lines of the lyrics, repeated in a catchy and melodious manner. Till today, Wande Coal, the brain behind the lyrics, is still regarded as one of the best vocalists in the African music industry, and you can’t take that away from him.
Memories of this song:
The song was released in 2014 and remained in the spotlight until around 2017. At that time, I was in school and lived close to a very busy bar and restaurant that played loud music and often hosted musical shows. You’ll agree with me that there’s a strong connection between DJs and newly released or trending music. Yes, the DJ back then loved this song so much that whenever public electricity was restored, we already knew what we were about to hear blasting from his speakers. It became a joke among us, and we’d say things like, “Didn’t I tell you what song would be played?” or “I talk am!” and so many others.
It was all fun too, because even though we laughed, we still enjoyed dancing, nodding our heads, and singing along with the chorus… of course, the verses were too ‘rugged’ for us to sing along to.
While on campus, this song was also a staple at parties such as welcome events and departmental gatherings. It had such a rhythmic and calculated beat that made it perfect for organizing dance competitions. Oh yeah, the song was played on repeat during those competitions.
Patoranking, who is the main owner of the song, is known for his Jamaican-inspired singing style, and in his two verses on this track, that’s exactly what he delivered—making it hard for us to sing along. But aside from that, the rhyme and flow are very sweet and entertaining to listen to, even though one has to pay close attention to catch the literal meanings of the lyrics.

Love this! It's so true about those songs that define a particular time. The DJ really set the vibe, and the anticipation when the power came back on is so relatable.
Asweeeaar!
That time, once we finished shouting "up nepa", the next loud sound that came is the into beat of this song 😅

I don't think there is anybody from Nigeria who would claim to have not heard this, except the person was not yet mentally mature when the song was trending. It was all over the street
This song was a huge vibe back then. Patoranking sure does know how to create good melodies in his songs.
