Medicine and bitterness
Greetings!
Sometimes, I just feel like protesting against medicine makers to stop making bitter pills.
Why can't they make sweet medicine?
Must someone frown and make a face before they swallow medicine?
If the bitterness is removed, won't the medicine still be effective?
Ohhhh! These are my thoughts anytime I think of medicines being bitter. I know I should have done some research before making this rant, and perhaps there's a reason for the bitterness in medicine. But come on, I don't see the reason at all. I think they're just trying to go along with the saying, "what must heal must be bitter," just like how we believe in Africa. Lol.
You know why some people prefer taking injections to medicine? It's basically because of the bitterness of medicine. Come to think of it, life is just hard because why can't there be a softer way to cure a sickness? The two options are just scary: bitter medicine or an injection.
There was a time I had stomach pain, and it was so severe that I had to go for a test. When I got to the place, I described my symptoms to the medical person, and he advised that I shouldn't proceed with the test because it would cost more, and he already knew the sickness. So, he suggested I buy drugs. He went on to prescribe some, and among them was a herbal mixture; it was liquid.
When I got home, I brought it out, and when I tried taking it, the bitterness of the herbal mixture was 1,000%. Before then, I used to think that bitterleaf was the most bitter substance on earth, but hey, bitterleaf is 0.5% compared to what I had from that medicine. The bitterness was so severe that even after taking it, I went to brush my mouth with toothbrush and toothpaste, but the bitterness didn’t leave my mouth. I resorted to spitting all through the period until the bitterness disappeared. During those times, anytime I wanted to take the medicine, I would think about my life first. I knew that the moment I took it, I would have to surrender my life to the medicine for about an hour or so.
I kept asking myself, "Why did the herbalist make it so bitter?" To be sincere, I didn't see any reason for it. There's absolutely no reason. If bitterness cures sickness, then I would go and pluck bitterleaf to chew it raw or squeeze water from it to drink. Lol.
Although I've seen sweet medicines, they're usually medicines meant for children in syrup form. I wonder why such can't be for adults too.
Oh yeah, maybe there really are sweet medicines for adults, but forgive me, the only ones I know are bitter. The sweet one I know that adults take is simple and not considered a big deal. It's vitamin C; one that has a sweet taste, and I buy that to chew or lick anytime I go to a medicine shop.
Thanks for reading.

Sadly the sweetness of it can sometimes exacerbate the issue you are trying to fix!
At a minimum though, what you can do to alleviate the issue for yourself is to take a small teaspoon or bit of honey immediately after the medicine. This should help reduce the sour taste!
Someone said it could bring sugary effects like diabetes.... and I keep wondering 🤔
Okay, the reduction of bitter taste by help of honey sounds nice.
