Making a better environment with Minimalist lifestyle

Greetings everyone!🙌

Consistency in minimalist habits plays a crucial role in achieving an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Making intentional decisions about possessions and a commitment to simplicity not only benefits the environment by reducing the ecological footprint but also fosters a sense of balance and well-being in individuals. Many times, I've received awkward looks from neighbours for being 'stingy' while living my life and conserving things that ought to be abandoned or thrown away, but I never cared.
Some of the ways I live a very minimalist life as it harmonises with the environment are as follows:

  • I clear and sell off scraps;

Over here in my part of the world, we have people who go about buying scraps of all kinds, especially steel and aluminium.
I make sure I gather these retired irons in my house and my environment, keeping them in a corner. I usually store them in a sack here👇

With this, I clear off the environment and also get a tip for doing so instead of letting them stay in the environment and cause hazards.

When I worked on my current apartment before moving in, I had some nails, irons, springs, and many others that were left damaged and non-useful. I packed them in a corner and waited for the scrap guys to come and buy them instead of disposing of them in the open dustbin and creating danger for anyone who might step on them.

"Must you gather everything?" I remember when a neighbor heated me countless times with the question.

  • I repair first;

Whenever any of my appliances spoil, I try as much as possible to repair them and make them useful again, instead of quickly dumping them in the dustbin where all the occupants of the compound dispose of their refuse.

Oh yeah, there's nothing wrong with dumping those items there as soon as they get damaged, but putting those items in use again prevents the congestion of the bin space, hence making the environment more livable, and it also saves money.
A typical example is the wall socket below.

I took this photo last year when one of the wall sockets in my workplace got damaged. Instead of putting it in the bin, I tried to repair it myself, and yeah, it worked, and it's still useful to this day.

  • I do decluttering;

My next-door neighbour is a family with just a man and his son of the same age as me. The wife (mother) had a restaurant before she died, and after the burial, they packed all her cooking utensils and other female materials in the lobby. They were living there before I packed in.

When I moved in, I found the whole place unappealing; bad odours were oozing out of the jam-packed sector.
In my first week, I couldn't just ignore it; I had to beg for their permission to clear the space because they were very comfortable with the smells and congested scene.

They agreed, and I took my time to pack everything out, burn the items that were not useful, and shift the ones I felt they might need to a corner. Below is the space I created.

Do you know the funny thing? Immediately after they saw that I'd 'cleared and cleaned' the forest, they started picking up items from where I packed them to sell whenever they saw scrap buyers. Lol🤣

You've doing some amazing activities over there to maintain a friendly lifestyle, it's indeed good to keep the unused items and iron should be kept away to have a safer environment to live in.

The act of repairing is also good, because with that you don't just throw everything away, just give them another lifespan via your repair.
