Ironing of clothes as a skill?

avatar

Greetings everyone! πŸ™Œ

Each time I reflect on how I became so acquainted with clothes ironing, it amazes me a lot because this is something only a few individuals on earth consider as a skill.

Ironing of clothes as a skill?

For a reason, I consider this work a skill because it's not something everyone does, and also, it's not something everyone does well. I grew up finding myself so engrossed in making my clothes neat, none of my clothes got rough to the extent that I even ironed my underwear,...as my school roommates used to tease me.

I was only doing that as a lifestyle until a person in my church approached me and asked if I could join him in his newly opened laundry business. I was surprised because I knew I didn't have a professional touch; I was just doing my thing to satisfy my lifestyle of never being seen in wrinkled clothes.

"Sir, I only know how to iron my clothes and not do it to a professional standard," I said to the man.

"I've been observing you. The clothes you wear, is it not you ironing them? They're very standard," he pointed at my well-stretched white long sleeve I was putting on.

He was able to convince me, and I accepted to work with him. That was the opportunity I used to refine my skills with a touch of professionalism.

This is one skill that I don't feel any hassle doing. Although I get tired at some points because it's a work, it doesn't feel like a normal bothering activity.

While I was in school, there was a family for whom I used to iron the family clothes. Because electricity was not regular, I would iron clothes all night whenever there was light to utilize it. Maybe it was because of the money that fueled those moments, but one thing is very sure: I didn't feel anything despite it being night, and I stood on my feet all through the night.

I'm finally into it as a business.

Apart from the easiness I experience doing this work, another reason that made me fully venture into it as a business is how those clients I had worked for before decided not to patronize another laundry person again. They said they liked the way I treated their clothes, and therefore I must continue that even when I wasn't around.

This happened when I finally got a mini job, and I was told to leave the place where I was working( working for someone else) because they want to shutdown.

These clients that were used to me refused to let go, and this, after a while, pushed me to establish my own ground.

This has helped my life so far. It's the thing that keeps me busy and hardly seen on this Blockchain to get involved with happenings. It's my real hustle!

Ready to teach someone?

The truth is that a lot of people consider this a strenuous job and can't be seen going into apprenticeship for it. However, I'm willing to teach anyone ready to learn. I haven't seen anyone walking up to me saying they want to learn.

Thank you for reading.

Wooow, I was just wondering if this can be a skill too I then remembered that when I make my choice of clothes to buy I avoid those ones that requires me to iron before I wear them. Infact if you want to punish me with not having iron, you are doing me a lot of good.

O do appreciate your skills because it is something very unique that I don't find it easy doing unless it is out of control

I know.
People, especially ladies don't look twice at iron. It irritates them to the core.

My female siblings, the prefer to wear roughened clothes than to use electric iron on them 🀣

When it comes to ironing, I can but I find it stressful lol. If I am not going to somewhere important I am not ironing anything πŸ˜‚

And even iron the time I want to wear the clothes. It a nice skill to be honest and lucrative.

not your underwear tho. Haha

I'm not surprised. I know a lot of your type. Some even miss church and important events due to laziness to iron clothes 🀣

Honestly, people are supposed to get involved with things they love doing... This will help them want to go to work and not consider their work a punishment

Well, ironing of clothes is a skill, as long as we have some people who do it and it will still look ruffled and others who do it so well, it's a skill.

When I started reading this post, I remembered a post I read some time ego about leaving a laundry service for an eatery job which finally didn't go well, now I remember it was your blog.

God bless your hustle Kingsley.

No, I'm not, I love my clothes ironed well, but there are some clothes that are stubborn, no matter how much I try they still have few rough lines.

You're welcome. Well done.

Ha. Ironing is a chore for me. If I could have the opportunity to never pick up an iron again, I would gladly take it.

To bad you are so far, I would have given all my mom’s clothes to you.
Ironing those things is so stressful and she’s never satisfied with the results πŸ˜‚

I love to iron clothes both in and out I learned that from my sister who was also a designer.
As she was sewing she would tell me to continue ironing it.
