Farthest journey from home

Greetings!

I haven't really been into traveling because I don't usually have reasons to travel out of my place, given my always-tight schedule. Among the few journeys I've experienced, the farthest has been traveling from Delta State to Lagos State within Nigeria.

Before the journey, I was full of excitement because I was finally going to one of the most talked-about cities in Nigeria. In fact, it's said that if you haven't been to Lagos, you're not a full Nigerian.

I was going for a training session to secure a job, which was to last for four days. I planned to travel on Monday, with the training starting on Tuesday.
I woke up very early that Monday morning to catch a bus directly to Lagos from my city. Unfortunately, when I got to the terminal, which wasn't far from my house, I was told that they don't run it that way, and that I should have come the day before to book a ticket. It was around 5:50 AM, so I was advised to travel to the nearest city to see if I could catch a bus there. I rushed off, but unfortunately, I didn't find a bus when I got there.

I was left to take a bus along the road, which was somewhat higher in price, but I didn't mind because I was running late already. If I didn't get going at that time, I would reach Lagos at midnight or possibly the next day because it's very far.

That's how I embarked on the journey in a small vehicle that contained 8 passengers. It was my first time passing through those roads, so I put away my phone and focused on reading details along the road. Along the way, I kept answering calls from my boss, who kept asking where I'd reached because he was the one directing me. I didn't fail to respond. He was so concerned that he almost suggested I take a flight because he was afraid I would get lost along the way. Can you imagine that? I'm an adult!

The driver was speeding, and I loved how he was overtaking every single vehicle on the way. I love it when the car I'm in overtakes others. Despite knowing I would arrive late, the speed made me think we had reached Lagos when we stopped at a terminal. Oh yes, he stopped for us to stretch our legs, have a drink or snack as breakfast, and ease ourselves because by then, we had been on the road for about 6 hours.

After our break, we got back in the vehicle and sped off again. After another 2 hours, we reached a state close to Lagos and were held up in traffic, spending up to an hour before being relieved.

We finally entered Lagos, and the main traffic jam held us for up to 3 hours in a slow 'move and stop.' Inside Lagos was worse. By the time we got to the terminal where I was to get off the bus, it was around 7:30 PM. You see, the journey that started at 6:30 AM.

I got off the bus and called the person I was supposed to meet. He directed me, and that was when I faced another series of traffic jams. Well, after all the troubles, I finally got there around 12:13 AM. Yes, I kept track of the time.

Throughout my stay there, I was thinking about the time I would need for traveling back to my base.

Thanks for reading.

Yeah, that Lagos traffic is something else.
You've been there once from Bayelsa?

The journey home was kinda smooth because it was early Saturday's morning. No traffic at all but I got home late too.

I wouldn't advise anyone to travel to Lagos within the hours of 5pm and 9pm, during those hours traffic jam in Lagos is almost unavoidable. The most annoying part of it is that the cause of the traffic might just be a minor issue but lagosians are so poor at settling road dispute within themselves without turning it into a traffic epidemic 😂.

Yeah,. When I was coming back, it was a Saturday morning and the roads were smooth. Only that we got hooked at a tollgate because of traffic too. Yes, on a Saturday too😂

How was your experience at Lagos? Did you like the city despite the traffic? Traffic seems to be the common base across the world for all cities :( we could have removed the name of the cities in your account and it would have sounded as a trip to Delhi to Mumbai in India :) Still I love the various cities as much as I love rural places. I guess I am a city boy at heart. Wish travelling was easier and cheaper and I could come and check out Lagos, Abuja and all the other cities in person :)

Hahahahaha!😂
It's the last part for me. You want to come and experience Lagos traffic? Oh my God!
Well, Lagos and Abuja are nice places without the traffic issues.

My stay was fine. I got to experience the lifestyle there. I saw the places I used to see in movies.
Thank you so much for stopping by

Lagos and traffic jam are inseparable. Sometimes I wonder if some drivers find joy in causing these hold ups.
