Dirty Money (2024) Review

There are times when you finish watching a very interesting movie, and you’re so eager to tell someone about it — I mean, you feel compelled to force it into someone’s ear. That’s exactly what I’m here to do in this article. Lol.

Dirty Money, a Korean Action/Crime 2024 movie, had me intrigued and wanting more that midnight I watched it. With the title Dirty Money, one already has an idea of what the movie might be about. No lies, I imagined the plot from the title, but I never expected to encounter such a well-crafted story with many twisting and suspense.

Okay, so two friends, Myung-Deuk and Dong-Hyeok, who are detectives, got information about a large amount of money in the custody of some Chinese drug lords, which was to be shipped into the city. Due to their critical situations (personal life), they planned and got another detective involved — Jeong-Hoon, a younger fellow — who linked them to a way to get guns unnoticed, so they could go and seize the money. Their plan was simple: no shooting, no killing anyone, because the people guarding the money could easily be overpowered with their weapons, and they would cart away the money.

Did it go as planned? No. They got there, but just as they were about to leave the scene with the bags of money loaded in their car, gunfire erupted from nowhere, and the younger fellow was killed in the shootout. They were painted but shipped the dead body and the car used into the deep sea to cover up any trace

Now, the most interesting part is when the two friends were assigned to investigate the robbery and killings. They were happy, thinking it would be easy to cover up their mess since they were both the culprits and the investigators. But no — their supervisor had his eyes on them. He suspected them, or better yet, he knew something was off, and the issue escalated into a bloodbath, both over who would claim the money and how to cover up the truth.

Imagine a situation where, even though I knew the two friends did a very wrong thing by stealing and causing someone’s death, I kept wishing for them not to die, for them to survive the hunt and the eventual revelation of the truth. Gosh! What an emotional movie!

The movie really lived up to its name. The dirty money was truly dirty — it got a lot of people killed without mercy, even innocent ones. The trust and bond between the two friends carried them through to the end, even when it was almost severed toward the finale.

I must commend the scriptwriter for such a twist and solid plot. It’s a movie that kept surprising me with each new revelation of the truth.

The fighting scenes were also well-executed. The no-mercy shooting scenes were so entertaining.

As always, it felt like they rushed or squeezed everything into just a one-hour-plus movie. I wish it had been a series. Maybe that’s just my opinion, but I genuinely wanted more.

I would give it a 9.5/10 rating.

Such an interesting review. I wasn’t surprise to hear that the younger one died, it’s always like that. And did you say bad detectives? Okay, this sure sounds like it’ll be fun to watch.
