Christmas & New Year Highlights

Greetings!

Before the Christmas and New Year celebrations, I practically foresaw how everything was going to play out. I knew I wouldn't be traveling home for the Christmas celebration, so I mapped out plans to have the best of it at my base. My primary plan was to feed to my satisfaction from a particular family's pot. This family made it a tradition for me to come around to their house whenever it was Christmas Day, provided I didn’t travel home. Their invitation was irresistible, and I’m glad I went to their house that day because I ate enough food, plenty of meat, and drank a variety of drinks as well. Not only that, I even packed some food in a cooler (takeaway) to my house. They know I’m a bachelor and wouldn’t be cooking that day.

But surprisingly, I cooked that day, which was unusual for me. I prepared meat and ate so much that my jaws started hurting from the excessive chewing of meat. That Christmas Day and the next day (Boxing Day), I was completely free at home with no work. I laid on my bed all through, and even though there was no electricity, I had my power banks charged to the fullest, so absolutely nothing was a concern to me.

New Year Celebration:

I traveled home for this. I left on the 31st of December 2024, and one of the peak moments for me was seeing my entire family together. The house was buzzing with noise and joy. Yes, every one of us was present, and it was such a big flex!

Another highlight was how I ate non-stop, to the extent that my teeth started hurting. Feeding excessively, as long as I don’t gain weight, is something I do whenever I travel home because food is always abundant. During festive seasons like this, the food comes in great varieties. There was every type of food imaginable, from cooked dishes to fruits. The coconuts in our compound had matured, and I didn’t allow them to rest. You know, it’s not every day we get to have access to coconuts in such abundance. Lol.

The feeding frenzy started immediately after I arrived home on the 31st. My sisters were already in the kitchen, and I practically made the kitchen my second room.
The non-stop eating spree continued from the moment I arrived, peaked on New Year’s Day, and included a feast of meats—steamed, fried, and smoked. I even got to eat pounded yam, which I hadn’t had in a very long time. Mehn, home is truly sweet!

Every part of my stay at home was a memorable moment for me. I honestly don’t think I would have had the kind of enjoyment I experienced on New Year’s Day if I hadn’t traveled home. Thank God I did. The moments were so beautiful that I found it extremely hard to travel back to my base. I kept procrastinating my return date, which is actually one of my challenges whenever I travel home. Once I’m done with whatever took me there, I find it so hard to leave.

Thank you for reading.
