Display of cultural heritage in Uyo - Nigeria.
Yesterday, October 18th, 2025, was a vibrant cultural day in Uyo, Nigeria, my beloved hometown. As I boarded a commercial bus headed to Itam Motor Park, my primary mission was to collect a toner I had ordered from Lagos. Little did I know that I was in for a treat.

As we navigated through the bustling streets, our bus suddenly found itself surrounded by a sea of colourful costumes and rhythmic drumbeats. Thousands of people, representing the 31 local government areas of Akwa lbom State, filled the streets, marching along Nwaniba Road towards the Government House on Wellington Bassey Way.

I watched in awe as each local government showcased their unique cultural heritage. The air was electric with the presence of various masquerades, each with its own distinct character and significance.

People of all ages proudly wore their traditional attires, beaming with joy and cultural pride. Despite being in a public transit, I couldn't resist capturing the magic of the moment. I whipped out my phone and started snapping photos, eager to document this unforgettable experience.

The sounds, the colours, and the infectious energy of the crowd - I wanted to preserve it all. As our bus slowly made its way through the crowds, I felt a deep sense of connection to my roots.
The cultural day celebration was more than just a spectacle; it was a testament to the rich diversity and heritage of Akwa lbom State. I felt grateful to have witnessed this incredible display of cultural identity and community spirit.
