The Better Partner

I listen to a lot of people teaching about relationships and how one is to be prepared for marriage. It is always fascinating to hear those we classify as relationship experts discuss how to build a relationship and how to make one's marriage work. I really love the work they do, and I feel that it goes a long way in helping to prepare people for a journey that no one can truly claim to be an expert in.

For me, I always feel that each relationship has its own peculiar needs, and no two relationships are the same. What works for A might not work for B. Relationship is a universal concept that many people have tried to decipher, and most of the time, it turns out to be a journey without a destination.

Many variables of relationship have been highlighted by lots of people, and I can say yes, these variables are very crucial or important if a relationship is to work. Examples of these variables are love, sacrifice, commitment, trust, finance, communication, patience, and forgiveness. The aforementioned variables in a relationship are important, but they don't necessarily make a relationship work.
Most times we tend to look out for the earlier stated variables in our friends or partners, but we fail to access ourselves if we are exhibiting these variables. For one to have a relationship, I believe we need to first work on ourselves. I should try to be the best in a relationship and not look for the best. Most times, we always want our partners to be the best when we are not even putting in the work ourselves. I'm seeing another person as not being good enough; I should pause and ask myself a simple question: Am I good enough?

It is time we search ourselves to see if we are truly the saints we claim to be. For a relationship to work, the parties involved must strive to be the best. Carry out a self-assessment to be sure that you are doing the right thing in that relationship. To bring out the best in my partner, I have to be the best.

Let us all take some time and build ourselves before trying to build others. The journey to a good relationship begins with ourselves.
