A PERFECT ONE

Dan, I know you are a good boy, and I want you to continue to be a good boy. Always listen to your elder sister, Margaret said as she started coughing uncomfortably.

Mum please take it easy, take some water, as Jane gave her mum water from a wooden cup.

No it's ok, Margaret said as she forced herself to continue while speaking.

Daniel my boy, you and your sister only have each other now…

No mum don't talk like that. Jane interrupted. We have you, and you will be fine. We have come this far and I will get you the snow flower soon, just hang in there mum.

No my dear, let me speak, Margaret continues to force her words. I do not have much time again, I will give anything right now to be able to tell you both that I will be alright, but the infection has already reached my heart.

No mum no, Dan said.

No mum, we can still do something, there must be something we can do, we already lost dad, we can't lose you too.

My dear, I'm sorry, Margaret said as tears rolled down her cheeks, but I need you to be strong, I need both of you to be strong because you will need it for the journey ahead.

I need to tell you a secret before I go, and I need you both to listen to me. The snow flower is more than just a flower that grows in the snow, it's your inheritance my children.

Your grandfather had left it for your dad, and your dad was coming for it before he passed. Now you two must find it, I need the two of you to find it and stop this infection before it reaches your heart.

Do not worry about me or my body, I've always wanted to spend my days in the mountain snow. But you must find the snow flower, follow its root, and it will lead you to a tree beneath that tree is your inheritance, you two will never need to suffer ever again.

For my body, leave me on the mountain top, let it be food for the vultures, it's my way of giving back to the universe. And please don't forget, the key is your blood. Your father's blood runs through both your veins. I love you my…

Those were Margaret’s last words before she gave up the ghost. Mum, mum, please don't go, wake up mum please we are almost there. Dan and Jane cried on their mum.

After hours of crying, Jane held Dan and said; We need to fulfill mum's wish, the infection has covered both our arms already, we need to be fast if we must survive.

12 year old Dan and 17 year old Jane both carried the mother's corpse to the top of the mountain fulfilling her last wish as they heard into the snow crying and remembering they had lost their father the same way a week ago.

They remembered how they were living a quiet and peaceful life until an infection broke out. The only cure for that infection was the water from the perfect Snow flower.

Richard, their dad who was a small business man, decided it was time to go back home. He had caught the infection first and knew his only chance of surviving was in his father's estate close to the North pole.

Although the snow flower was rare, Richard had grown up seeing it grow around his father's estate and knew that was the only way to cure himself. Unfortunately, his entire family caught the infection and now they all had to look for a cure.

But due to a compulsory lockdown, Air and Ship Ports were open, making the family travel by road and through the woods, but unfortunately after three weeks of traveling, the infection caught up with Richard and caught up with his wife the week after. Now it's left to his kids to find and take the cure.

Looking at the map, Jane knew she was close, she and her brother kept working until they saw a flower in the snow, but somehow they knew it wasn't what they were looking for because it was immature.

Walking closer they could see more and more immature flowers and this brought a wave of emotions.

Dan: We are finally here, mum and Dad… and he burst into tears…

It's okay Dan, it's okay, I know they are watching us from wherever they are. I know they are together now, and we must live for them, so let's find this damn flower.

It's been 9 hours since the lost their mum, and they were now losing the daylight but continued walking until a smell entered their nose, it was a smell like nothing they had ever perceived, so fresh and immediately remembered how their dad would always talk about the smell of the perfect flower.

They knew they were closer to it now as the smell became very strong.

There, that's it. Dan shouted, spotting it first. They both went close and saw a flower standing on its own, no doubt it was what they were looking for. And when they lifted up their heads, they could see a whole garden of perfect flowers blooming with fresh sensations.

Uprooting one, they both shared the water that came from it and instantly, the infection they were dealing with began to disappear.

Dan see, Jane said as she looked at herself, it's finally over they both exclaimed as they hugged each other. Looking ahead, they could see a castle, but when they tried moving forward, it was like an invisible barrier was stopping them.

And that was when Jane remembered her mother's last words, “it's in your blood.”

Taking out a knife, she placed a small cut on her hand and placed it over the barrier and immediately she should feel it, all the immature flowers began to blossom as the barrier went down.

Now I know what we need to do, Jane said.

What is that? Dan asked…

Jane: We are going to save the world.
