Redesigning Our Wardrobe
I wrote last week about having brought my PC down to Aimee's house, and how delighted I am to be able to write, work and do a bit of gaming on it (when I get a chance) the only bad thing about it is where it is set up. Because it's not in our room I only have access to it until about 7 or 8 o'clock at night, which is annoying, but it's better than not having it at all.

Here is the current set up, it's grand, but it is a little bit cramped.
I was looking at this setup the other day, and kind of said to myself, I'm a bit squished here and lose access to it after a certain point, but if I was able to setup in our room, I'd still be a bit cramped, but at least I'd have full access to it throughout the day and into the night if I ever had to get onto it.

Here is Aimee's wardrobe.
It is a floor to ceiling behemoth, and due to its positioning and the addition of the cot in the room we basically have no access to the right hand wardrobe, due to not being able to open the door fully when things are in front of it.
Because of the cramped bedroom, there always seems to be stuff in the way of the doors, stopping us from accessing them.
Also, there are three drawers in the left hand wardrobe, which can only be accessed by opening the doors and as mentioned before, just opening them can be annoying sometimes.

I've been sketching out a design for the wardrobes which is much better and would give us much better quality of life.
We can essentially cut down on everything else in the room by combining it all here. The idea is for this to be the only unit in the room that pretty much holds everything.
I'll start from the bottom left and work my way up and around it, to explain my idea:
So, the chest of drawers. There are three drawers currently, one of which is broken, and they're fairly big and bulky. They take up about two thirds of the height currently and my idea is to raise that a bit higher, while cutting down on the depth of each drawer.
We'll get four large drawers each, and one small drawer each, rather than now, where we essentially have one drawer each for everything.
The top of the chest of drawers will be clear to store/ display stuff.
Above that there will be U shelving going right the way around, which we can use to store binders, books and stuff like that.
The section will have no door, so we can easily access drawers regardless of what's on the ground.
Above that we'll have two hanging rails. Also, I'll be buying railings that can be pulled down so we can take and hang clothing easily without needing step ladders. We'll get one rail each. The doors will be cut and the new ones will only cover the wardrobes, and can be accessed regardless of what's on the ground. Instead of the current way they open, we'll change that, now they'll open from one side, and the doors will be hinged together so they fold into one another. Neat, and easy to access.
Below that we have the computer desk/ makeup table.
I've bought a double monitor mount and my idea is to have the screen on one arm and a mirror mounted on the other. That way, Aimee will be able to utilse this space for doing her makeup and hair, and in doing so we can get rid of her makeup unit on the other side of the room. The computer will be on the desk as it is now, because there is genuinely nowhere else to put it. Below the PC will be in built drawers for holding products and stuff like that.
The desk itself will have a cut away so the chair can be pushed right up against it without taking up any floor space.
Also, above the monitors and below the hanging rail section we'll put up some U, or L shelving that can be used to hold some gaming consoles and other bits and pieces like that.
I'm still sketching and figuring out the best way to use the space as efficiently as possible, but this seems to be the best solution to the issue of space.
With the other units gone, the only things taking up any floor space in the main room will be the bed, bedside lockers, laundry basket and cot.
Sounds like space is tight for you. It does shrink down when kids are involved. Have fun with the redesign. My parents had a built in cupboard designed for their kitchen that included a desk. For some strange reason some people like to hide the technology!
I have my own room, but it's packed with tech and music gear. I may have to rearrange some time, especially if I get more 3d printing gear.

You've got a 3D printer? I've been looking into buying one, I'm so tempted to buy one of the Bambu Labs ones for some stuff I'm looking to make.
Yeah, man, space is really tight, we're living with Aimees' parents, and the house is an okay size if it wasn't for being overcrowded. The redesign should hopefully make things a bit better though
I can recommend the Bambu A1. It's on special offer for now. I've printed a load of stuff with no issues. Could you find space for it?
That's the main thing holding me back from buying one at the moment, I'd need to figure out where I'd be able to set it up
