A safe space for gossip

I'm not usually the type to contribute to gossip at the salon 😂 who knows I might be the next subject as soon as I leave. Trust me the saloon near your house holds more secrets than a diary could ever. I've been to different saloons and had many different experiences and different stories to hear.

But there's this one I never forget. So I had just written my WASSCE exams and I was so eager to get my cornrows braids done. In high school we were made to keep short hair. So I went this hair saloon for the first time, I went there with my friend Farida,so we got to this saloon to meet three ladies who were having a conversation one was the hairdresser the others her friends, so she started with the braids then they kept talking as she did my hair. they were discussing issues of one of the friends who was recently Married. Apparently she had problems with her husband's family especially her mum in-law. The hairdresser and the other friend were in support of her consoling her and asking her to be patient.

So after a while when my hair was half way braided, the recently married friend left for home the moment she was out of sight the two other started talking behind her back saying negative things about her and she too was part of the problem, my jaw dropped at that moment, how could they do that, pretend in her face and talk about her behind her back, I turned my neck slightly to take a look at my friend and she too was in shock, what the hell just happened was what I could read from her expression, we both couldn't believe it. At least they should have waited till we leave then they start their gossip. We just stayed quiet till my braids were done I made payment and we left. The poor lady was only sharing her problems with her friends, she thought the saloon was a safe space , but rather she was only giving them more gossip topics to discuss.

There's this one hair saloon near my house where I go to wash my hair lately. so I am slowly easing into the place having more conversations each time I go there. There is something I've noticed ladies come to do their hair others come to talk and gossip.The shop is just by the roadside. So you can always see people passing by and greeting. So anytime a person passing who they are familiar with, a comment is passed and the discussion kickstart, ah this people would give detailed details about the person. And only God knows how true their information is.

As much as many gossip are shared at salons . Some people find the saloon a comfortable and safe space for them to share their problems and dilemmas, some come to gossip and release stress and many more

The saloon hasn't been always the gossip centre but is also a space for some to share their problems. Ironic right?😂.
