In this day and time, a regenerative ability is all I need.

avatar

I recently watched a TV show about beings with supernatural powers. The storyline of the show carried it well and the actors were also charismatic.

It's a dark show with a fair amount of gory fighting scenes where folks got messed up badly in fights. You know, it's a fight between people with supernatural abilities. You can already imagine how intense that fight will be. It was catastrophic.

Even amid all that catastrophe, goryness, and stuff, I still fondly imagine what the case would be if I'm allowed to make a choice and pick a superpower. Well, the opportunity has come in theory.

This writing prompt asks;

Tell us what superpower you wish to have if you had the chance.

Lemme tell you about me and the mindset I work with. I don't believe that we can sit on our ass somewhere and expect every good thing on earth to come to embrace us. I genuinely don't believe that. Instead, I believe in working hard, going through pain and suffering, and staying hard even when I feel like quitting.

My life is a typical example of that. I wake up each day and put myself on the line to do things I probably don't enjoy. I go for 2 hours walk. I push up and sit up till my body feels inflammatory. I do all these. Not because I enjoy suffering myself. Nope. I do that because I know that I have something I want to achieve and I'm ready to go through pain, get burnt to ashes, and rise again as a new, rebuilt, and upgraded version of myself.

Does all that give you a clue about the superpower I would want to have?

It's easy!

I want to have a regenerative ability.

This means the ability of my body and mind to rebuild itself with the speed of light whenever I experience any sort of damage. For example, if I jump from 10000ft above the ground and crash myself into multiple pieces, I would still be able to regenerate the broken pieces within the twinkle of an eye.

This isn't a fancy super power. I know. However, I'm not walk on a glittery path. I'm ready to go through the rough path of life, take huge risks and even go through death, knowing fully well that even if I die over a thousand times, I will still regenerate.

I don't have instant regenerative ability right now, but I can feel a part of me die each day while I try to be better than I was a day before. You just don't know how much I've pushed myself to get to where I am. I'm sure you also don't know how far I'm ready to push myself to get to where I plan to be in the future.

Deprivation? Suffering? Pain?

I've been through all that and I've been staying hard and winning my battles. Now, imagine what will happen if I grab an instant regenerative ability. Haha.

Think about that for a minute.

Mm interesting, but I’m confused how this will help the community?

It depends on what the community needs. In times of danger, everyone basically runs fat away from the danger zone.

Guess who steps up to face the danger? Someone that knows pain and is not afraid that face difficult situation. Now, imagine of someone like that also has a regenerative power.

He knows he will never die. Well, the community have themselves a hero in that case.

And, I know that every community needs people who understands that life is not a bed of roses. People who are going to try a thousand times if that's what it takes to achieve any great thing

Mmmm, this was one hell of a read. I have read so many entries for this prompt, but this feels new to me. I actually get your point and your reason for choosing this super power but when it comes to pain, count me out. I'm willing to push myself to whatever extent to reach my target but I would want to put myself through physical pain.
Thanks for sharing with us.

Yeah. It's really understandable. Our body and mind will fundamentally go for things that doesn't involve pain, especially when it's physical pain. Haha.

In my case, experience has made me rearrange myself and my mind in several cases. If there is something I need to do and it involves going through any sort of pain to achieve it, I brace the pain and go through that hellish situation. Haha.

Life is just not easy.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

I can't only imagine, I can relate as well. How much patience I put into something because I know the reward will be massive. I'll keep consoling myself with "It's just a matter of time, things will be better."

Exactly. Haha. I'm glad to finally see someone that sees the dark side of life.

Seriously, there are times when the road may get so tough, we basically feel like ending everything and stepping back

However, the goal we want to achieve is too huge to be ignored. That's usually when I look at myself and say "this too shall pass". Hehe.

The problem with regeneration ability is that you can still feel the pain that comes with your injury, that's why I prefer invincibility; no pain, and you don't even need to heal since you can get hurt in the first place 😁

Haha... That's very true about regenerative power. Some thing they don't feel pain. However, they feel all the pain. They just get better at handling the pain whenever they regenerate. Haha.

Having the ability to regenerate is very cool. It would also make you feel invincible. You would try out anything knowing that if you get hurt, you'll just regenerate.

Exactly. Having ability will make you push yourself beyond all limits because you know you will always recover from all injury

Hoho! I really admire your fighter's mindset, as well as your discipline and endurance. Facing problems requires courage, and recovering from a difficult time demands cultivating resilience.

That's exactly what you demonstrate in your story. It's often challenging to work on becoming a better person, especially since changes are usually visible in the long term.

One could even say they are imperceptible, as they happen gradually, making it hard to realize our own evolution. That's why I think it's beneficial to keep a journal and update it regularly. In a few years, you'll be able to measure the distance you've traveled.

Recently, during a discussion with my aunt, she shared her regret about not having taken photos when she bought her house and the adjoining land. She undertook significant renovations, investing a lot of time and money. But everything happened bit by bit, and now, without clearly remembering the original state of the house, it's difficult to fully appreciate the journey she's made.

I've always seen pictures where people show things at the beginning stage and display how the thing looks after years of hardwork. That's always inspiring and I believe it's something worth having around. Like you said, it makes it so much easier for us to appreciate the journey so far.

Thanks so much for sharing that interesting story with me. I need to start keeping track of the daily goals I'm hitting. I don't usually play around with camera, but I think i may get to check yhay out once in a while. Hehe.

I know things like these are marathon. Life itself is a marathon. We have to stay steady in our pursuit of whatever we want. If we do it consistently, we will start seeing the results gradually. Hehe.

Absolutely, and keeping a record of our journey can be incredibly valuable, especially in moments of despair when motivation is needed more than ever.
