EPL fixtures tonight; It was very dramatic in Stamford bridge.
The English Premier League always wows us with the drama that comes out of their fixtures. We get it each gameweek and for tonight's fixture, we have one game in which I have a vested interest. That's the Liverpool game. The other game of the day is the game between Chelsea & Man United, the most anticipated game of this gameweek.
Arsenal already played their game for this gameweek and are sitting at the top of the Premier League table with a point ahead of Liverpool. That means that Liverpool's game against Sheffield tonight was meant to be a must-win game. At least, that's what all Liverpool fans would be hoping for.
Liverpool bossed the first half of that game and got a well-deserved goal before half-time. The goal came from Darwizzy in a very chaotic way. That was a goal that reminded me of the chaos that Mane was causing during his Liverpool days. Nunez charged towards Sheffield's keeper and was able to intercept the ball. The rebound found its win in the net.
In the second half, Liverpool slipped a bit and got caught by Sheffield. They capitalized on that and made a couple of attacking moves. One of those attempts led to an own goal from Bradley. That leveled the scoreline to 1 - 1.
Jurgen was furious about that and it was interesting to see Salah getting subbed off in the 60th minute. He has been making very poor decisions and he cost us some goals with that. Hopefully, his mind will be in the right spot when we play our next fixture... A game against Manchester United.
The last 20 minutes of the game was a ruthless performance from Liverpool. They pressed really hard and didn't hold back when launching their attack. Of course, two goals came out of that. One from Macca and another from Gakpo. The goals were enough to secure a win for Liverpool. 3 points in the bag.
You see a game between these two sides? It's always filled with so many expectations, rivalry, drama, intensity, and whatnot. The Nigerians who support these two sides always turn up in huge numbers whenever a game between the two sides is scheduled. It was the same tonight. Everyone was going crazy with banter and the game itself was producing scores that matched people's expectations.
Wow! 4 goals were scored in the first half of that game. Chelsea opened the scoreline in the 4th minute and followed it up with another goal in the 20th minute. Man United stepped back into the game and scored two goals within the last 15 minutes of the first half. That settled the scoreline as 2-2 during the half-time break.
The second half was even more dramatic. Man United scored a goal to put themselves ahead. However, Chelsea equalized in the 10th minute of extra time. At that point, everyone thought the last two minutes of the game wouldn't make any other difference to the scoreline. Everyone thought the game would end as a 3-3 draw. However, Palmer wasn't buying any of that. He stepped up and scored the winning goal for Chelsea in the 90+11 minute, just a few seconds before the final whistle. Haha.
It must be tough to be a Man United fan after that performance. I can't pity them though. Not when I know they will be playing a game against Liverpool on Sunday.
