The Last Petal Falls

A wilted rose
A petal unclings from the thorny stem
slowly wavers in the air
like a mystical dance
it lays quietly on the sill
Time pauses in warning
mayhap its the breeze
but deep down I know
the clock’s ticking fast
Yet thoughts of your welfare
cross my cluttered mind
rips me apart
if only I was there with you
The day isn't done yet
another petal swings in the air
to join the former
I rub my chest absently
Why waste another second wondering
when I can pack a bag
and make a night's journey
just to be with you
Uncaring of your deceptive letters
that report contrarily you're okay
but my rose wilts faster
by every tick of time
It's a long drive home
in the biting cold
when the last petals stiffens
and folds into itself, falling off
The cold breeze carries it away
before I stop the car
my heart shatters into many pieces
just as the last petals floats away
Enchanting, like an old tale
it vanishes
and I arrive home in tears
unsure to bid you adieu or au revoir
Had I left before the petals fell
i might be gifted
with a final glimpse
of your brown eyes
and winks that make me chuckle
I'm here now
reluctant to say goodbye
a wish of time and beautiful moments
until I see you again.
