Betrayal's Mark

Betrayal is a rot of the soul
The opposite of loyalty and love
Such concepts are alien to him
It's all dark in there
And so it must be for every human

The lens of his spectacles
Thickly opaque and dark
The light of life collides with it
Bouncing back to its source
Unable to slip through the dark lens

As his soul putrefies
Greed takes over, seeing only himself
No one else matters
Everyone else is up for sale
His price is steep to the highest bidder

His pupils constrict into gleaming dollar signs
Divulging vital secrets in exchange
Not of an outsider
But of his closest person
The arrow strikes, piercing them in the back

Is he home free from such grave disloyalty?
Everyone's got a price
He says in consolation
To silence the voice of reproach
And impending karma

Love is a stranger in disloyalty
A festering sore has no hope
Of glimpsing the light of healing
For betrayal remains a rot
No finer words can embellish it's corrosion

Betrayal's pain has broken many a heart
When light brings the revelation
Of the culprit's disloyalty done in the dark
Lucky are they who know their betrayer
Unfortunate are those who never do.
